Agree. According to her curriculum vitae and quote from Wikipedia,
“Doudna went to the lab of Thomas Cech at the University of Colorado Boulder to crystallize and determine the three-dimensional structure of a ribozyme for the first time, so ribozyme structure could be compared with that of enzymes, the catalytic proteins. She started this project at the Cech lab in 1991 and finished it at Yale University in 1996.”

The black hole breakthroughs are also super extraordinary, but in a rather distant way.
I assumed the MIT team led by Dr. Feng Zhang must be feeling down.
“The Nobel Committee’s decision not to include Zhang was one of the biggest surprises. The geneticist has been commonly named, with Charpentier and Doudna, as the trio most likely to win a Nobel prize for CRISPR. Zhang’s team, in an early 2013 Science paper, modified the CRISPR–Cas9 system to make precise genome cuts in human and mouse cells.”
