Sent to school counselors yesterday. Looks like this was a super competitive admissions round.
This year, Boston College received over 10,000 Early Action applications, reflecting a 15% increase from last year. We will offer admission to 3,200 candidates. As our Early Action pool is typically about one-third of our total applicant pool, we strive to enroll about one-third of our first year class through this process. This ensures fair and equitable treatment in our process for all students who apply to Boston College.
The mean composite SAT for admitted students is 1454. This figure reflects new SATs only. The mean composite ACT for admitted students is 33. We were deeply impressed with the classroom achievement, extracurricular involvement, and personal qualities of the students who honored us with their applications this year.
At this point, we have deferred 4,300 candidates for a second comprehensive review of their credentials during the Regular Decision process beginning in January. They will receive decisions from us in late March.
We have denied admission to 2,900 candidates. While we recognize that this is a difficult message for young people to receive, particularly at this time of year, we want to be forthright with students who will not be competitive during our Regular Decision process. In the past, many of you have expressed appreciation for how this supports your counseling efforts.
