Rejection letters

Just to have a little fun, how’s this sound?

Dear XYZ admissions,

This year @STUDENT experienced an unprecedented number of offers of matriculation from highly qualified academic institutions and, as your institutional profile is lacking the passion and focus I have come to expect from a prospective college, it is with deep regret that I must reject your offer of admission. Please understand that I review each acceptance carefully and holistically, and that my rejection of you should not be interpreted as a reflection on your college’s prospects for future success. At the end of the day, quite frankly, I simply don’t have enough seats to accommodate all the qualified colleges that seek my attendance. I’d like to wish you the best moving forward and hope that you also selected some good “safety” students you’ll find adequate and affordable.

Best regards,

@STUDENT

I like it :slight_smile: Especially, “I simply don’t have enough seats to accommodate all the qualified colleges that seek my attendance.”

I know it’s intended in fun, but … I swear to you, people in admissions do not enjoy telling students no. Honest. :slight_smile:

Would it be too much of a tease for @STUDENT to offer the various rejected colleges a spot on her waitlist along with a hint that they might want to submit a letter of continued interest?

You should try being a British applicant applying to a British university. You don’t hear back from the college, but from UCAS. It’s an impersonal email that reads something to the effect that “we regret to inform you that your application has been unsuccessful. If you have other applications pending, you will receive a decision on them in due course”. Short, sweet and to the point.
