The 2024 UC application is now open. The submission period is October 1- November 30, 2023.
Please note that the application fees per campus have increased from $70 to $80 ($95 for International applicants and non-immigrants).

My son received a letter in the mail congratulating him on his high academic achievement at his high school and encouraging him to apply to the UC’s - Is this letter what is referred to as Eligibility in Local Context Top 9%. The letter does not state any %'s. He received a letter from the school in May/June 2023 asking for parental consent to send his GPA to the UC’s because he has been identified as being in the top 15%.
Questions:
Is this the ELC guarentee for admission into one of the UC’s
Is this something worth mentioning as an honor in the Common Application ? (not the UC App)
This is a marketing letter not an ELC letter but he still should be proud of his accomplishments. It is sent out to the top 15% of your graduating class.
ELC is top 9% of the HS class or Statewide which guarantees if an eligible student does not get admission into their choice UC, they will be referred to UC Merced if spots are available. Last year some ELC students were also referred to UC Riverside.
ELC is unique to CA HS students. I personally would not list in on the common application. Hopefully other posters will way in with their opinions.
Agree not to list. This information - whether an applicant is at the top of their class - can be discerned by colleges through the school profile and/or counselor’s letter. Adding a UC designation when applying to non-UC schools isn’t really a thing.
As for the UCs, when you submit your application you will get the final call on whether or not you made the top 9%.

Below is a direct link to the individual campus updates that were presented last month. Some of the slides provide very interesting nuggets of information about the most recent admissions cycle. For example, UCLA provided the admit rate for its individual Schools/Colleges, and UCLA’s yield rate for the first-year class that enrolled in Fall 2023 hit an all-time high of almost 53% (6,749 enrollees out of 12,781 acceptances).
Some of the information from the UC Counselor conference regarding campus updates has been posted in the UC campus specific discussion forums. But I agree, very good information.
Does the UC application allow a student to submit to one campus on one date, then still prior to Nov 30 deadline, make edits to a PIQ or activities, and submit to additional campuses? I believe this is how the common application works, but not sure about the UC application. Thank you to anyone that can confirm how it works, if it is possible to submit the application to different campuses at different times.
You cannot edit the UC application like you can the Common Ap. After you submit the UC application, you can go back before Nov 30 and send it to more schools, but you can’t edit the content of the application.
No, which why your PIQs should NOT be tailored to a specific campus. All UC campuses that you apply to will read the same version of your PIQs (and activities).
Hello,
my daughter is filling out the UC App. She is trying to add her course work in AP micro economics and AP macro economics course however there is no option in the course dropdown.
How can she add these economics courses?
Courses specifically approved in the G subject area include those such as political science, economics, geography, humanities, psychology, sociology, anthropology, journalism, speech or debate, computer science, computer programming and others or be interdisciplinary in nature, drawing knowledge from two or more fields.
Does anyone know if UC Engineering programs consider the first semester grades for someone who is just now able to take calculus as a senior (before making their admission decision)?
