Hi,
So I am an IB Senior applying to college right now and I want to know my chances of getting into Boston University or University of Miami.
UW gpa: 3.11
w: 4.4 on a scale of 6 (ib/ap classes being weighed 6, honors 5, and standard 4)
I’ve taken 9 IB classes(ib diploma program), 6 APs, and the rest were honors, with 4 standard classes
my sat score is a 1240, but I 'm not gonna submit
My extracurriculars are fairly strong, I started my own political club, have a leadership position in another leadership club, and have a political internship, and I own my own small business.
I also have leadership positions in 2 other community service clubs.
I also plan on applying ED
My grades before senior year were low, but the first quarter i got all A’s which i think shows growth. Will they consider it?
A hook is an institutional reason why a college would want to accept you over other similarly qualified or sometimes somewhat better qualified candidates. Very few people have hooks and if you did you would know it. Some examples of hooks are: recruited athletes, children of huge donors, people who would bring positive press to the school (ex. Malala).
I used college vine and it said I had 74%-88% chance of getting in. How accurate is this tool? I’ve read about how it it very accurate, but I could be totally wrong. Could you provide some insight?
I agree with the above comments. A 3.1 isn’t going to be competitive enough for a realistic chance of getting in. It doesn’t hurt to apply. The only apples-to-apples comparison with other applicants is the unweighted GPA and SAT/ACT score. Weighted GPAs don’t really mean anything, because every school weights GPAs differently.
