'09 NCAA baseball WS

I have one kid at LSU and one at Rice. Rice and LSU each are hosting a regional. Those two regionals are matched with each other. Since the LSU stadium is only about 2 miles from our house, I may have to try and get tickets.

umm… ok?

DS would be so jealous. He’s a baseball freak. In fact, he umpired two games today. He’s visiting Carleton and Macalester this summer and is hoping to catch a Twins game while there.

Oh, and even though he loves Rice, we bleed burnt orange, so I hope they don’t end up going head-to-head. I just saw UT is a no. 1 seed but haven’t seen the sked.

Rice isnt ranked in the top 8

That’s because the Big 12 deputy commissioner was the chair of the selection committee. Of course, he let East Carolina (a fellow conference member of Rice) be a host of a regional (which they really didn’t deserve IMO), so that he could put Choklahoma as a national seed. Florida St. and Rice should have been national seeds, instead of Florida and Oklahoma, but that’s the way the ball rolls with the d-bags from the Big 12. He also put the Texas Teasips in an easy regional, letting them square off against the likes of Army and Boston College, whose university presidents just realized that they had an effing baseball team. Also screwed LSU over by making them possibly face Rice in the super regionals, when LSU should have been rewarded with a weaker potential opponent.

i read a prediction on espn that said rice could fall out early…

but like fresno st last yr anything can happen i guess

We have a yearly charity game called the Wally Pontiff classic in honor of the late Jesuit/LSU baseball star.

In earlier years, we were treated to Rice versus LSU.

What an awesome game.

The Rice boys are a bunch of great guys who really respected the spirit of the game, honoring such a special guy.

This year, we got to watch LSU play Southeastern Louisiana, a worthy opponent, but I do miss seeing Rice.

LSU does have a great team, and I will miss seeing Nick, Wally’s little brother, play.

Yeah, Kansas State destroyed Xavier, who’s a joke of a team and worse than the 4 seed Rice is playing, Sam Houston St. The Wildcats are starting AJ Morris, who’s considered one of the best pitchers in baseball. 13-1, 1.61 ERA, he’ll definitely be a challenge if the Owls beat SHSU tonight.

Both LSU and Rice won today. Things are looking up

Two FREAKIN FANTASTIC games today, back to back, and a ton of kids who don’t usually play got out on the field…wooooooooo!

(Though of course the SA Express news will still shove Rice to the scores listing of the sports section and put UT’s loss on the cover…swear I’m gonna write a dozen angry letters)

Spoke too soon. UT won. Nothing like a walk-off grand slam to end the game.

When will Rice be playing, and will the games be televised?

I’ve been a Rice BB fan since Lance Berkman played for the New Orleans Zephyrs.

The game is at 6 pm tonight. Not televised as far as I know…

Don’t know whether Rice has something similar, but dh and I were able to watch the UT games online on texassports.com. It’s on a 10-second delay but uses the radio feed for audio.

Good luck, Owls!

Hey, to be fair I wrote that at the top of the ninth  Best UT finish since…well…their 7-hour game the day before haha.

There’s a link from the Rice Athletics website to video feed of the game but they’re not being televised…yet.

Yeah, my 14yo went to bed and missed the exciting end. He and his brother were at the marathon game, though. Lucky guys.

Rice going to the Super Regionals against the Bayou Bengals of LSU. Oh its gonna be a party down in Baton Rouge this weekend!!! All games on ESPN

Can’t get tickets. Season ticket holders have bought them out. As a student at LSU I believe my daughter could put in for a raffle, but only she could go with her ID and the games will be during her work hours. My son (student at Rice) isn’t a fan as his vision is so poor he can’t see the action. He never developed any passion for such activities.

Hooray for ESPN! Got the games on as I’m typing!

and it ends… :(
