'09s - GO ON DOC TRIPS!!

Guys,

I know some people dont like hiking, some think they arent in shape, etc. The "easiest" trip is literally not much more than a short walk. And you meet so many of your best friends. I have heard plenty regret not going, have never heard anyone regret going. Its not about the trip really, its about the crazy games at the lodge afterwords, the night before, etc.

I am most definitely going on one this fall, I really want to do the hiking or try a kayaking/canoeing trip if possible. Quick question do you usually get your first choice of trips and trip dates slipper?

When you fill out your forms you will list your preference of Dates and activities. One pick must be hiking, they give samples of skill levels and you then determine yor skilll level. Hiking is done on every DOC trip. All activities are not given during all sessions.

Hiking trips are broken down by skill level, and there is something for eveyone. I know that D's trip was Nature watercoloring. She can be a really girly girl and she had a wonderful time.

I know they have

Nature Watercoloring
Organic Farming
Nature Photography
Nature Writing
Cycling
Canoeing
Climbing
fishing
flatwater Kayaking
Mountain Biking
Whitewater Kyaking
Trailwork
Road biking
Horse back riding (very Limited -5 people per session. last year given during sessions E & G)

In your package they tell you if you need sleeping bags, mats or a pack to contact them because they do have some.. (Do this early)

Definitely do not over pack because you do have to carry your stuff.

j-

Hiking is a lock, almost everyone gets it. You shouldne have trouble with kayaking/ canoeing either, and the dates are usually flexible.

haha ima do nature water-color to pick up art chicks

Thanks Sybbie for the info, I cant wait until my DOC trip this fall

BTW haha...lol jet, I think I may join you in your nature watercoloring

O yeah, Sybbie or Slipper how much are the trips??

Last year the cost of the trip was $125. If your received financial aid from Dartmouth then the college gave you assistanceship in the amount of $60 making the trip $65. They had a bus for people from the tri state area (same as for Dimensions) the cost of the bus was $79.

hey..can I go..even though I'm going to UMich????

i have heard that us kids on the west coast take the later sessions normally but that athletes must go on one of the earlier ones. is this true?

Hi Handsonthedash,

west coast kids normally go on the later ones so that they only have to make one trip and they can move in after their trip. If you have a special request speak with them when your trip information comes.

turns out i'm probably going to end up going sept 1-6 cause of water polo. i'll end up moving in before my DOC trip, go on the trip, and then fly back home to Fresno literally an hour away for our training trip.

My daughter will be moving in around the 4th because she is going to be a UGA next year, so you may end up seeing her again.

OHHH! Do Mountain Biking!! So much fun. AND you get to stay in a cabin rather than under a tarp. AND all of your stuff is bused to you so you don't have to carry a thing (cause its impossible to bike with that much stuff on your back). SO much fun. and anyone can do it. i mean, i hadnt ridden a bike strenuously in like... ever. I had a blast and so did everyone else!

Then again, my friends are leading rock climbing and organic farming, so go for those too. lol.

is hiking the way to go if you want to meet a lot of people.. and be with the big group etc...??

Hiking is part of every DOC Trip. It is broken down by skill level. You will meet a lot of people no matter what activity you choose because you will start and finish with your group of trippees,, not just the ones who are doing the same activity as you.

If hiking is your thing, then go for it.
