Geez... try to do something nice and whaddaya get?

I'm amazed at all the naysayers here upset that your $1000 offer might not go to the "most needy" students.

It is pretty obvious that you are offering a one-time prize as an incentive to build up the database of reviews, which will help everyone, including needy students who can't visit. It is equally obvious that -- like other contests -- this is simply a generous offer that will go to one very lucky person, for which they will qualify based on their own efforts. Those who cannot hope to win because they live on some planet far away from any college campuses can find some other scholarship program or essay contest to enter and maybe win something else.

Here's a tip, everyone: Roger did NOT say that these have to be 4-year-colleges on the US News top 50 list. So you might consider a visit to a lesser-known college located near you.

I just did this. I thought "I better do this before I forget to do it like that last awesome scholarship!" I am so mad... it was just make a video, turn it in, get FREE seventeen magazine and a chance to win a bunch of **** and I missed the deadline by 2 days because I procrastinated. I am never procrastinating on this kind of stuff ever again!!

Sorry, prettiesttom, parents aren't going to go away, and I don't want my fellow parents to stop filing reports.

Thank you, QuiteJaded, for your report.

I love details, from either parent OR student reports.

Like "What's the name of the absolutely coolest amazing XXX restaurant?"

And "Why exactly did the area around the school feel dodgy/sketchy/cool? Were there homeless folks? Was it just that the stores and restaurants had cheap student prices? Were townies of different ethnicity? Were there used needles lying in the street? Were there amazing movie stars, students and professors discussing Descartes in the coffee shop?

While my daughter loved the student report that said "XXXX Street is the S," she's been there, and agrees, and understands the lingo that being the "S" is a good thing. For those who can't travel there, or misunderstand the slang, that provides very little information.

So please all, keep them coming, thank you, and give us concrete details. While the scholarship possibility is a good carrot, you're also contributing greatly to CC karma.

Oh thank you, Roger, for dreaming up a wonderful incentive to increase the data base!

For S-3, we could only make 2 campus visits; therefore, 6 apps went in "visit-blind" including to the place he'll be attending.

In April, when his best offer came from California, it was too late to get an affordable cross-country plane ticket to check it out, and before that it didn't make sense to fly out there for a "reach." So on May 1, he accepted that offer. As he pre-packs, I feel as though he's going to meet his mail-order bride.

Reading more CC visits would certainly have improved his search process online. Online is the way kids are stretching their imaginations of what might be possible for them. If those who can afford visits report out and inform those who can't visit, this certainly distributes the $1,000 benefit of the scholarship to many readers, domestic and international. It's very community-minded, more so than many merit awards. Lots of ripples outward on the pond...

is it ok if i write a report just days b4 the deadline??im visiting Adelphi(which i checked its on the list) a week from saturday. Im excited its local but im happy to be starting my second real visit and my 4th college visit i used to spend a lot of time around the area that Adelphis in b/c my sister went to Waldorf school of garden city for her whole schooling and i went for Nursery school and My oldest sister went K-5th grade and i went to waldorf's day camp..i just haven't been around the area in a long time..(for ur info Waldorf is right next door and uses some of Adelphi's facilities)

With just over an hour left in the competition, I have to ask: When will the winners be notified? And will the finalists even be notified, or only if they win?
