1/1 what if i don't make it?

i’m worried. i gave my counselor my recs in september, and as of december 16th (the last day before winter break) he still hadn’t finished. he said he would make sure to mail them out by jan 1. my counselor is a nice person and all, but he is so unorganized. I have a guy friend with an arabic name, and the counselor had written his whole rec as if he was a girl. “She is an excellent student…” my friend katie had her rec written as if her name was natalie. i’m concerned he’s not going to mail out my rec by jan 1, especially since he’s going to europe over break.

will i get in trouble if the counselor rec isn’t postmarked by 1/1? i’ve already sent in everything else and my teachers say they’ve mailed in the teacher recs already. i know that the admissions office usually contact applicants who are missing a part of their application, and it’s not a big deal. i go back to school jan 4th, so if he hadn’t mailed them by then, well, i’ll make him.

from what i've heard generally they are lenient on counselor/teacher recs, esp. if it is not your fault. if your counselor says "I was unable to finish these on time because bluehunnydew gave them to me WAY too late" that could hurt you, but as long as keep your end of the bargain and turn in your part of the application in on time you shouldn't have a problem.

Id see if you could read that recc before you send it to make sure its correct

Well, I saw somwhere on the online app or maybe one of the booklets that it was the responsibility of the applicant to make sure ALL parts of the application are sent in on time. So, I would definitely start calling your GC or start knocking on his/her door to make sure he/she gets the rec in on time. It doesn't bode well when you receive an "incomplete application" postcard in the mail.
