1/16 submitted?!

What if my essay's submitted on 1/16? I just realized that the east is 3 hours ahead of the west. What happens then? Will I get rejected automatically?

Can someone still read my essays?

Yours won't get evaluated under regular decision. They will however look at it if they have the time. But unfortunatley with 33,000+ apps, I doubt they will.

how do you know?! how can you be sure?!

This is just a pure assumption but I assume
they'll probably look at your SAT/GPA, and if its good look at your application...but if its normal/subpar they probably won't bother.

just call the office!

forget nyu now

Applications postmarked after these deadlines will be considered only if space remains in the school/college and program desired. Credentials (transcripts, test scores, letters of recommendation, etc.) received well after the application deadline will put you at a disadvantage in the admissions process.

yah, at smaller schools it is usually all right but at a school like NYU I would have assumed what that link says

"Credentials (transcripts, test scores, letters of recommendation, etc.) received well after the application deadline will put you at a disadvantage in the admissions process."

Guys, it says WELL AFTER the application deadline...submitting it a couple of hours later probably won't hurt you.

And if it does, NYU's admission boards are ing ***s..

Esquared, that's only for credentials. It is clearly noted when they are writing about applications:

"APPLICATIONS postmarked after these deadlines will be considered only if space remains in the school/college and program desired. CREDENTIALS (transcripts, test scores, letters of recommendation, etc.) received well after the application deadline will put you at a disadvantage in the admissions process."

[caps=mine]

i live on the west coast. i just didn't realize that it was east coast 1/16 when i submitted it.

Tsk tsk... call the admin office and see what they can do for you. Sorry. That's the best advice I could give you.

yea, I live on the west coast too, so I had to turn it in at 9...
best of luck to you though...hope everything goes well

NO, wrong.

If you are submitting online (via commonapp)... NYU doesn't 'close' admission until they download the last batch of applications onto their server from the commonapp website.

If you submitted before they downloaded it, it is going to be FINE.

Plus... the commonapp is automatically set to eastern time. So even if you are submitting to a college on the west coast, 12pm PST will still be 3am EST. therefore the 'deadline' is pretty pointless.

dont worry about it

I think they have the submission date pretty much stamped on your app. So technically, you are still past the deadline. Sorry to be a rainer on your parade

They don't look at the submission time unless they're deciding between two qualified applicants that are extremely similar.

^
how exactly do you know that unless you're behind closed doors with admissions officers?

someone just brought up on a new thread that it doesn't matter if you got your app in time according to YOUR TIME ZONE. so if you got it in time according to wherever you live, then it's fine.

mmm I'm not sure if what I said is completely accurate, but that's what my counselor told me. She's been a counselor for over 40 years so she's pretty damn good at her job.

i honestly don't think the submission time matters at all. they can't reject someone (i mean they could) just for what, like submitting it a minute later than an equally qualified candidate? even if that was to happen, that'd be a stupid factor to base admissions on.
