1.5 gpa help!

I'm just starting my sophomore year with a 1.5, I had a really rough 8th and 9thgrade year personally and academically. I know it is TERRIBLE you don't need to make me feel bad. I was wondering if its possible or what it would take to have a decent gpa by college apps time junior year. I don't want to go to an amazing school or anything im thinking WSU I want to have a gpa of 3.0-3.2 by then is this at all possible? along with extra curriculars and hopefully good test scores could I get into a non community college?
also I transferred schools 2nd semester freshman year and im not sure if the 1.5 takes my fist semester into consideration which I might be able t fix. Im also taking ap and honors option classes this year and im doing well in them.

Is there any chance you will repeat any of your freshman year classes, thus allowing you to replace the lower grade with the new one? If so, that would help bring your GPA up. You might see if there would be an opportunity to do summer school to repeat one of those classes.

It sounds as if you are really making the effort to turn things around. If you can get up to a 3.0 plus, there are a lot of schools that would take you besides CC. Also, there are a lot of schools that don’t use your freshman grades when computing your GPA, so that could be a plus. I am not familiar with WSU’s specific requirements, but you can get on their website to see how they compute GPA’s, and what their average for GPA/test scores is for admitted students.

Keep plugging away and do the best you can so that you have more options. Don’t give up because of your initial bad grades- there is time to bring them up. Think about a couple of EC’s that you would really enjoy-don’t do them just to look good. Also, jot down some thoughts about why you did poorly your freshman year, so that when it is time to put together college essays, you might use them as material. Good for you for not just giving up- keep thinking about that end goal of college and just keep plugging away!

Just try to have 4.0 in your classes,
YOu must have 4.0 in junior year though to show that you did something.
Take rigorous classes as many as you can. That’s only thing you can do so far.
Also, for EC, do something beside sports or volunteer that reflect your interest, like internship…
good luck

I am taking my algebra which was my worst class again after school, I don’t know if it replaces the grade or just sits beside it but I can talk to my counselor about that and I will defiantly be looking into summer school even if I just have to take extra classes to add on to my gpa.
also i’m on my schools newspaper which I genuinely enjoy and looks good I believe. thank you so much for your help!

If you are repeating algebra, you should be able to replace your previous grade with the new one. That will really help your GPS. I believe the original grade will still show up on your transcripts, but it won’t count in your GPA. I wouldn’t do summer school unless you need it to catch up, or if it will replace one of your original bad grades. I feel like there are better ways to spend the summer. The newspaper will look really good as an EC, so if you enjoy it definitely stick with it. Best wishes and if you can just continue along this path, you will definitely have good options for college. Reading the posts on College Confidential can be intimidating because it gives the reader the impression that everyone has a 4.0+ GPA. In the real world, there are plenty of 3.0 students who go to a 4-year college and end up doing very well. Good luck!

or you can study AP on your own and take test

yeah I suppose that’s really my only option at this point. I wish I didn’t dig myself such a big hole. Thanks so much!

they really are intimidating and all my AP friends call me crying because their grade dropped from 116 to 110 OH NO!! haha. Im going to go see my guidance counselor Monday and have her help me sort out replacing some of my old classes. Again thanks for being helpful and positive!
