…you know what this mean oh future grads of BC.

BC will pester you till the day you die for donation in order to pay for this.

Funny, $1.6 bil is the exact number of our endowment…shoot, BC is going all or nothing.

God, I envy those 8-year old right now.

This is only good for the future, and good for the status of our school. I heard a little bit about the plans from my parents, the president shared some with them on parents weekend. It sounds amazing, but the bad thing is they are going to tear down the mods : ( One thing BC wants to do better is get gifts from grads - right now they have quite a few $1 million ++ donors, and lots of estate gifts, so they haven’t actively gone after (or needed to solicit) the smaller ones, hence the lower than average BC grad giving rate. Most colleges are calling the week after you graduate for gifts, and now I’ll bet BC will be one of those schools. Heck, my high school has already contacted me about giving and I’m a freshman! I’m sure we’ll all see a more concerted fund raising effort from BC.

Reddune - The endowment will remain untouched by the expansion plans. The monies will all come from fund raisng and loans.

winwin - I say good riddance to the mods. They were meant to be temporary when built in the 60’s – and their time has come!

Dear Reddune and mnwinwin11 : Investing in infrastructure renewal is a critical success factor for a university at any level - for a school like Boston College which is poised to be among the “Top 20” in the country, it takes on an added meaning. Fund raising is one of those things that comes along with a very strong alumni network and a strong campus identity. As for ripping down the mods, while many would-be seniors will shed a tear, the fact remains that those housing units are not in keeping with the style of the entire campus. Further, their location would be a prime spot for additional classrooms and campus facilities other than dorms.

I’m all for expansions, this will undoubtedly add values to my degree long after I’m gone. But it won’t be good for finding job because I’d be in my early 30s. Nevertheless, it would give me a boost to say who my alma mater is during the company’s Christmas party, LOL.

Down with the MODS. They are hideous!

Funny you mention that Reddune. I used to work at the phonecenter (in the basement of More Hall) and that just reminded of the job. Worst job on campus trying to sway people to donate money when they’ve clearly said NO 5 times. I expect them to be more diligent and annoying in their pursuit to raise more money.

Hideous architecturally speaking, but great parties and tailgating. I can imagine it would be a rotten job telemarketing in a basement to get donations, but every school does it. My parents who both went to Georgetown get called a lot, and we just learned to say they weren’t home when they called, they even had some weird caller id so we didn’t know it was them. Well I’ll be making so much money someday I’ll be more than happy to give back to BC and of course big time infrastructure spending is part of BC becoming even better.

“Well I’ll be making so much money”

By this statement, I’m guessing you are in CSOM.

I’m glad BC continues to admit type-A personality, Lord knows they are the only who is giving a penny right now to the fund.
