I’m taking AP Lang right now (High School Junior) and I’m not too interested in it. I feel that I’m more interested in history or science and that I already have sufficient study skills that could be learned from an AP class.
I am doing well in this AP Lang class. I got an A on it first semester. Now I am in the second semester. But I don’t like the class. and it’s a lot of work. Can I drop it? Will it affect my acceptance to a college? Significantly?
Thank you =)
Without knowing the balance of your schedule or what types of colleges to which you plan to apply, nobody can accurately answer this question.
You think AP Lang is a lot of work? Wait until college!
Here’s the bad news - colleges don’t give a crap about what you “like.” For the most part, they expect you to take the most rigorous and balanced schedule that you can handle.
Hopefully everybody in that class has sufficient study skills and the AP teacher is not wasting time teaching them. One thing that AP Lang does teach is how to be a better writer, which aside from being a good life skill, will be invaluable when writing essays for colleges apps. I’d stick it out; you’re already halfway through.
