1 grammar question

1.) His parents sent him to school in England when he was only five, however, and Kipling did not return to India to live until twelve years later.

A.) As written
C.) and it was only after twelve years that Kipling lived in India

Answer: A
Collegeboard explanation is that Choice (C) is incorrect because it is vague and awkward.

My Question: Can someone explain to me why Choice (C) is considered vague and awkward. It sounds okay to me.

CB’s explanation is bad. (C) is wrong because it’s not parallel–the first clause is active voice and the second is passive voice.

I understand the parallel part, but why is the second passive? It doesn’t appear passive to me.

This isn’t a grammatical or parallel error. C is illogical… Should be “and it was only after 12 years that he returned to India.” not “lived in”…

Or returned to live in…

But why is it illogical? The rest of the sentence is in past tense, so shouldn’t “lived in” be okay?
