1) hotels for move-in? 2) stores for dorm room stuff?

mishdoob - I'm sorry. Delivery of packages is one thing I truly know nothing about. We've never used one. I wish I could be more helpful here, but I'm clueless.......

Son's roommate brought a landline phone freshman year. Son didn't take one. However, before the first weekend was over, son bought a cheapy one to plug in on his side of the room. His thinking was that they needed a cordless also, and if he did use the phone and his roommate was sleeping it might be easier to go out into the hallway. (Whether this was actually helpful to them or not....I haven't a clue.) LOL Personally....I think if they get along great, one would be enough. I don't know if they have a voice messaging service or not so perhaps an answering machine might be helpful? I know son doesn't have one, but then again I always call him on his cellphone. I don't think there are telephone boxes at entrances at UM though, since every dorm has security staffed at the main entrance desk 24/7 and to get upstairs you must use your CaneCard to gain admittance......

I agree - one phone should be enough.

As I think about it, calls during the day from the room (when cell minutes are more precious) can easily be made on a land line.

But, do they pay for local calls? Is there a UM or phone co. charge for phone service? If so, it might make better sense to go the cell route with more minutes, if need be....

Local calls are included with R & B <a href="http://www.miami.edu/UMH/CDA/UMH_Main/1,1770,13772-1;19339-2,00.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.miami.edu/UMH/CDA/UMH_Main/1,1770,13772-1;19339-2,00.html</a>
S and roommate discussed this and they are going with one phone/answering machine.
