I didn't do too hot on my CR on my last SAT1 so I'm retaking the entire SAT1 again in a month for December. Anyone know tips/ways to really increase my CR score...by at least 150-200 in a month? Is this possible in a month? Any links? It would be helpful :)

Do you get more passage or sc questions wrong?

What's your score now? Are you a native speaker?

Eh, probably around the same. I'm not very good at vocab and I'm not good at reading and analyzing.
Duper- I can score well over 700 for the math and writing but only around 530 for CR :( I was born here in America and English wasn't my first language...but yes I'm still a native speaker.

Vocab: Memorize roots
Passages: Read books.

On my sophmore PSAT.. i got a 55 because I didn't understand anything, but after reading up on some novels, everything is clear..
Plus I just took the SAT today and I think i got in the high 600's.
So it's possible!

What is the best way to improve the reading passage parts. I read a lot, I'm just not good at answering those questions. I do fine in the other CR parts, but the passages kill my score.

Can you guys possibly name a few books that are good to read for SAT CR?

Dank08: Trust me on this. Read books.=] IT works. Promise. I used spark notes last year because I never read books and I missed alot on the PSAT ..lets just say I'd have made a score in the 500's for CR, but I started reading classic literature and my score has definitely improved into high 600's maybe 700's (700 is tough)

ivyleague104: Scarlet Letter, Dracula, To Kill a Mocking Bird, Tess of d'Urberville, Anna Karenina
Dostoevetsky, Tolstoy,Hawthorne, Agatha Christie, Arthur Conan Doyle if you like Sherlock Holmes
...
Classic lit section in your library!

Mark Twain, Flannery O Connor..

I read a fair amount, so that is not it, I am just not good at answering questions like "what is the author thinking" or any of that BS.

^ Well. Make sure you look right at the lines.
The questions are usually chronological. Idk.. but reading books helped me answer those types of questions, but then you have to be actively reading and be involved in the story.. so when Hester Prynne stands in front of the whole crowd you try to imagine it and feel her pain and describe how her reactions reveal her character and how the responses reveal the judge's character..etc..

oh yeaa those are real good ideas. hey guys i have a quick question. i scored a 440 on Oct test and am aiming for an elusive 600 (lol it is hard for me -- i'm international) and a 650 on W. is it attainable within a month??
what specific books do you suggest me to read? any free source??
how many raw scores would get me a 600 CR and a 650 W (essay is a 8)???

^ Read magazines and short stories ACTIVELY! That's key.
I'm not a native speaker either but I managed to get my score into 600's
you can deff. do it.
It'll become alot easier.
The answers will pop out.

Heh, I don't know how much reading in a book I can actually complete in a month though. I've read To Kill a Mockingbird and The Scarlet Letter though.

^ Read magazines and short stories because they are short and you can steal actively read them.

Where do I find short stories? Do you have a link?
