i took a spanish IB course last year, and just tried the AP test for fun (they are 2 waaaay different tests) and i totally bombed it.. (i got a 6 out of 7 on the IB spanish test though)

will i be able to explain this to colleges on my application?
or do colleges (more specifically HPYS) even care?
will my other AP/SAT/ACT scores cancel it out?

ive been reading that APs and IBs are only for course placement

At my college, you get credit for a 4 or 5 on an AP, but still have to take placement tests. The Spanish placement test was easy, and I placed really high. I got a 5 on AP Spanish Lang, 3 on Spanish Lit.

Don't worry too much about it. The AP Span test is a new format, and it takes a lot of practice to do the syntesis, speaking, and listening questions. Just explain that in the additional info section of the college app.

doesnt every foreign language test just test oral skills, listening comprehension, and reading comprehension, cause thats what the AP covers...haha
whats on the IB?

IB is pretty much looking for vocab in passages, passage questions, short essay, and long essay

totally different format. plus i dont know if all the spanish ap tests were the same, but our listening parts: speakers talked very fast, cd skips, and one speaker stuttered (***??). plus i was one of the few who had recording problems, so i had to re-record. no joke the exam took over 6 hours for me. ridiculous
