1 question for all CA residents

Hi guys i am oos and i have never been to CA before. so here is my question for all CA residents: can you guys sleep without air-con from late spring to early fall (april - oct)?

coz i am from a super hot place where one can hardly sleep without air-con

This is super subjective. I was born and raised here in southern CA, but I love it freezing so I always have the air on.

For the past couple of years we have had really hot summers so I would say no, you need the air durring the summer. Another thing to consider is where you will be living, if you are closer to the beach it is much cooler than if you live downtown or in the valley.

It depends where in CA. UCLA area is probably cooler because it’s near the coast. It’s not the south or arizona kind of place. There might be 2-3 days per year that you will need air-con.

Thanks guys, so i guess that i would place deluxe and plaza over classic res halls

I’ve lived in the “classic” res halls before and it’s really not that bad. Just open up a window at night and the rooms usually come with a fan. But if cost isn’t a factor to you, go for the deluxe/plaza options because why not.

I was born and raised in SoCal. Weather around my place is around 50 - 60 degrees F in winter and 80 - 90 degrees F in summer (spring and fall are somewhere in between those two with spring being a little on the warmer side and fall being a little on the colder side).

That said, I have never used the AC in my house. In winter, I just use a thick, down blanket. In summer, I turn on the fan if it gets too hot and use a thin blanket. I don’t think it’s too bad since it gets cool during night; it’s only really uncomfortable during the day. Of course, when you’re in a sardine can with 2 other students…I’m sure it can become really hot but that’s when you hop down to the library or the nearest place with AC. No problem. :)

haha, good suggestion on hopping down to the library! passing a few sleepless nights in the library can be an achievement after all!
