#1 ranked student of 2019

@pishicaca She is on Instagram and her most recent post was on 4/29. She did not post where she was going yet, and someone asked her in the comments and she said she had not decided yet. She did confirm that she die you the Common Black College Application and Common App for her application process. There is a picture of her with all of the acceptances spread out on a table in front of her as well. The National scholarships are identified as GE-Reagan Institute, Stamps, ACLU Advocacy, Bonner Leader, Presidential Excellence and Intercultural LEAD Scholar.

I’m all for accolades and recognition for achievements. That it is of paramount importance for college applicants to have an affordable option, makes it newsworthy and admirable for those to apply for scholarships and merit money as well as for financial aid.

But better to have ONE fully paid college than hundreds of partially paid choices when money is short. Is there any indication that this student has ANY full rides? The one young woman who set to go to Penn State Beaver Campus is still short the funds to make it happen even after getting millions in scholarship offers.

That’s what is missing here and I am sad that the media doesn’t direct its attention to the importance in getting enough funding to go to college.

My one son did get quite a few performance awards and scholarships when he applied to colleges. But the top dollar one was a big $5k off of more than 10x that amount. His best deal was a lot less off of a state school to bring his net costs down low.

If she paid the $50 (on average) application fees for 139 colleges, then she spent roughly $6,950 on apps.

If her fees were waived and she spent $0 due to low income, then she totally abused the goodwill of the system.

Either way, this story is ludicrous.

A lot of colleges don’t have application fees.

So far from “Bravo” that it’s not even funny. What a waste, from so many perspectives.

I have a kid who had high enough stats and accomplishments to get into a top 5 university - she could have gotten into hundreds of colleges and had free rides at a lot of lower ranked schools. I don’t see it as an “accomplishment” to apply to over 100 schools. Really, what is the point?

How many college admissions officers had their time wasted by having to review her application when she had no intention of attending their college?
