I know my SAT's are not that well and my EC's are not very much. Just don't have any time left after 7days school, work and tennis. Chinese culture is what I really am interested in.

How about Ivies? and top Lac's? and what's better to retake SAT I or II
need finaid

Colgate

Wesleyan

My sympathies on your rejection . Where were you rejected?
How much financial aid to you need?
Where do you live? If you're not comfortable stating the city, say the region and whether it's a big city or rural area.
What is your parents' business and what do you do? Depending on what you do on your job, that can be an impressive EC.
How educated are your parents?
What did you write your essays on?
What are your career goals and prospective major?

I don't see any safety schools, and I fear that may hurt you. Usually one can find a good safety in one's state public universities. In fact, with your relatively high scores and valedictorain status, you should be able to find a safety in your public college system that also would definitely give you merit aid.

I was rejected at cambridge..
I need a lot of aid and the fact that I am intel also counts..
I live in the Netherlands and I also hold the dutch nationality
My parent's haven't receive any education...as my parents fled Vietnam during the war.
I wrote about my love for chinese culture and about an experience.
I want to follow a possible Asian Culture course.
the last 2 years i worked at a supermarket to earn money for my education, this year I quit it, because my parent opened a store in the capital and I needed to help

I didn't applied for any safeties because I need lot of aid and I am intel

You Need Safeties ~ Or Else You Might End Up Having No College To Go To!

Since you are an international, I think you are a longshot for everything. It's just so hard getting acceptances as an international, particularly since you need lots of aid, which would restrict your options.
Have you considered the Canadian colleges? They are much cheaper, though I doubt you'd get aid.

Hmm.. Okay.. so the chance is very big that I get rejected by all?

there aren't lot of safties for intels that are in need of money:S

I dion't know if they have aid for intels, but I know Earlham (Richmond, IN) has Asian Culture courses--that would be a safer bet--also look at Wheaton in Norton, MA--not sure about their deadlines, though.

anyone else about my chances?

What is an "intel"? Regardless....your list is very top heavy. The schools on that list are highly competitive for admissions...unless you are a male applicant at Vassar which would be more attainable, in my opinion. There are thousands of colleges in the United States, and around the world. Did anyone help you compile your list of applications? Are you sure all the schools on your list give aid to international students?

I think you'll have a good shot at Bowdoin. One of utmost things that Bowdoin is looking to improve is diversity. Just by the fact that your chinese and dutch increases ur chances significantly. Your ECs may be weak but Bowdoin tends to look at the overall picture, your academic record and essay(s) could help you significantly.

What schools would you like to add to this list and what should I retake SATI or SAT II?

Btw... I am not Chinese... I am vietnamese who is borned and raised in the The Netherlands, and who likes Chinese culture very much

i don't think your sat i/ii's are a problem at all. they're good enough. it's really just your EC's.

well...if you want a good safety, there's a lot good ones. i

Could you please name a few...with finaid for intels please?

and if I must retake one what should I choose

And again I ask....what is an INTEL????

I think he may have ment "international", but that's my guess.

Why do you want to go to school in the US instead of the Netherlands? Couldn't you get a good, affordable education in Europe despite being rejected by Cambridge, one of the hardest European universities to get accepted to?

If you were a US citizen, you'd have decent chances of getting the aid here that you need, but it will be hard as an international because it's so expensive for internationals to go to college here, few colleges offer financial aid to internationals, and consequently, the competition is fierce.

Why do you want to study Chinese culture in the US? Why not do that in Asia?

I want to go to a US College, because it offers me much more opportunities to explore other subject beside my chosen subject.
I am still not exactly sure if I want to choose Asian culture as my major as political science and economics are very appealing choices.

And why I don't want to study in Asia?
First of all, most universities are not up to standard... and the ones that are tsinghua and tokio university dont offer finaid.

Also I did applied to some other European universities, all in UK by the way. and I believe that a study at a Dutch University in Economics or Political science doesn't offer me as much as academic opportunities or academic quality as a study in US or UK will

Other excellent schools in the US to consider if you're interested in East Asia:

Michigan
Berkeley
UCLA
Stanford
Chicago
Penn
WUSTL
UCSD
Bucknell
NYU

In England:

The School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London

In Japan:
It's my opinion that outside of Todai (Tokyo University) and Waseda, most top Japanese university programs suck for foreigners. Learning Japanese is just too much of a hassle for a degree that's not that intensive. Trust me, I went to a top Japanese "kokuritsu daigaku" for half a year. It wasn't near the quality of my own school.

Seriously though, do no overlook the programs I listed.

By the way, if you like poli sci AND East Asia, every program I listed, maybe with the exception of WUSTL, is a top poli sci program as well.

Your list is very good, but maybe you should try some "top 25s" instead of just "top 10s".

thanx UCLari.. but most of them don't offer aid or not enough...

@nortstarmom
Do you think I shouldn't had apply to US College and must focus on an university in Europe.. one of my other reasons is that in USA the academic quality far better is than that of in Europe, beside LSE and oxbridge
