Hi, I'm entering a boarding school this fall as a senior after being homeschooled 3 years because of being sick/multiple surgeries. I was supposed to graduate last year so I will be slightly older than average seniors. I'm really nervous about my situation, having been home for 3 years! My questions are:
1. have other people transfered to prep schools later on?
2. will other kids be accepting of a new senior?

Congratulations on 12th grade acceptance! The Admissions Committee must feel confident that you will do well, and that College Guidance can work with you right away.

I have no insight on Berkshire School. I've looked at their pictures, and the setting looks stunning. I am guessing that because it is not a large school, the students will be happy to receive you. They have PGs, so you won't be the only new one.

There are always so many new kids at boarding schools that you will fit in fine. Besides the PGs, there will be a freshman class (all new) and new kids in all the other grades. You will do fine and I hope you have a great experience. You will have an advisor and dorm leaders to help you adjust.
My son entered a school as a junior (2nd year junior) and fit in immediately.
Keep us posted.

Thank you all for being so nice. I feel very lucky to have been accepted some where as a senior, seeing as I only applied in June.
I also was wondering:
How the work load compares to honors classes in public school?
What Saturday classes are like?

one more thing that has been concerning me a lot, I am going to be turning 19 a few days before school starts. I would of liked to have gone to prep school earlier but unfortunately hit road blocks in my life that prevented me from doing so. Is this unheard of, I am afraid of people judging me because of it.

The PGs will be your age or possibly even older. A number of students repeat 9th or 10th grade before entering prep school. PGs combined with repeats combined with kids who were held back for Kindergarten -- I don't think you will be the only 19 year old there!

My son has Sat. classes. He never complains about these, especially when he gets more vacation than his other friends in boarding schools without Sat. classes or limited Sat. classes. Last year he had a light load on Sat.

Choate only has 4 or 5 Sat. classes a year for special circumstances (i.e. the first Saturday because classes start on a Friday and it's stupid to have only 1 day of class) and Parent's Weekend so the parents can come see their children in class, etc.

My son turned 19 fall of senior year, due to entering as a repeat junior. Don't worry- there will be plenty of kids your age and older. Just don't be surprised to find that the freshmen seem REALLY young and small.

The number of Sat. classes will vary depending on the school. D's BS has Sat. classes at least once a month.

As for age, there are PGs and since many of the BS students come from pvt schs (which require that a student be 6 for 1st grade), the students tend to be a little bit older (D's bf turned 18 in Oct. of senior yr).
