UCLA’s avg applied GPA raised this year YET the avg accepted GPA dropped. So they are making a conscious decision to reject more higher GPA applicants and accept more lower GPA applicants. A 4.0 non TAP v a 3.7 TAP is probably a fair compression. I didn’t have TAP complete and had a 3.8 GPA, rejected from Biz-Econ, my friend with a 3.7 GPA got accepted. (for the record his PS weren’t that great either if anything is thinking they were a deciding factor). I also know another person–who quite frankly is 100% under qualified for UCLA–get into Poli Sci with a 3.5 GPA and TAP. From my person experience ECs and TAP are very important (for UCLA at least).

You won’t find that econ class so don’t worry about it. As for the english class I think it depends on the college. Like for Berkeley Haas I am pretty sure you can’t use AP credit.

If I decide to take some (not all) of my major prerequisites during Fall, do you guys think that will harm my chances of admissions?

@bomerr Oh! Did Haas require you to take an English class regardless of AP exam score?

Going to have to agree with @lindyk8 here. If your school doesn’t offer a pre-req course, you’ll be fine. Berkeley and UCLA won’t hold it against you. Instead, you’ll just have to take those missing courses at whichever school you get accepted to and decide to attend.

To piggyback off of @cayton , if at all possible (without doing anything crazy) you should try to find those prereqs elsewhere. You’d rather pay CCC prices for them rather than UC prices. Plus in some cases, you may have to enter the school as a Pre-whatever major, and that could make things take longer. I have 1 class that I couldn’t take, so I now have to take it this summer at UCLA, to be officially declared my major. $1600 vs $250.

@bomerr you may be right re: GPA, problem is we don’t know all the facts. There have been so many high GPAs on this site missing major requisites that disqualified them. Although TAP may play into it for sure.

@2016Candles but think of the money you saved on gas by not driving 30 miles away to take the CC class. You probably broke even. jk

^^^ LOL! Like I said, don’t do anything crazy, but if you can make bit work, then make the effort.
