CMU's International Affidavit of Support form says that families must show enough funds for the 4 years of college including the 10% annual rise in fees. So does this hike actaully take place? Obviously the costs do increase, but is the factor as big as 10%? If this is true then I might be paying $65000 in my senior year!!

What is the international affidavit of support?

I don't remember such a form last year.

its a form required by cmu from international students to show their elidgibility to pay for the college expenses....anyways do u have any idea abt the annual hike??

CMU reserves the right to raise tuition anytime so I do not think it is set in the stones at all. They always announce such things to the current students through emails and ads when they would even THINK about raising tuition as they have done this year.

I think it is a MAX that they might raise tuition and if so, up to the 10%. This allows them some leg space if they ever needed to raise tuition in the next 4 years but I doubt it will be the max of 10% or if they will even raise tuition at all.

another question:

if the prices do increase, does the fin aid increase accordingly?

Yes, as they have done this year. But of course internationals do not receive such aid.

im not an intel.

and will the increase in aid be in grants or loans?

Both considering your individual needs. For example if you received 20k grants and 20k loans and price goes up 10k, it would be expected that you'd get another 5k in loans and 5k in grants. Obviously this example has the prices largely inflated for the sake of simplicity.

thanks a lot for clarifying. :)

i hope after the 8% hike in tuition, cmu remains quiet for a few years...it would have been wonderful if cmu too had a tuition lock system like georgia tech....ans sachit dun be so scared abt ur loan....i would be graduating with twice as much as u would be....and i am hoping against hope that i would be fine!!
