10 best pulic schools for a political science major

I've been looking at schools for a long time, and I have compiled a list of the 10 best public schools for a political science major based on all my research. I am writing this to a younger version of my self. To someone who really wants to get involved in politics and has no idea where to go. To someone who doesn't want an pretentious school and/or doesn't have the grades to go to one anyways. Anyways based on my research these are the ten best Political Science Schools in no particular order:

University of California Berkeley
University of California Los Angeles
University of California San Diego
University of North Carolina
University of Washington
University of Michigan
University of Wisconsin
Ohio State University
Indiana University
University of Minnesota

Other Great Public schools for a Political Science Major (not necessarily the next 5, just others to think about):
University of Maryland
Rutgers University
Michigan State University
Arizona State University
University of Iowa

So pretty much the best public schools there are. Shocking.

And what are your criteria for determining which departments are “best”?

Cool. Now all I have to do is get into UNC-CH OOS and I’ll be set.

I’m confused as to how UVa isn’t on that list. Its two Politics majors seem quite good, and it’s closer to DC than this “top 10.”

^Virginia is ranked only #61 on the NCR grad department rankings. While these rankings doesn’t tell you much about the quality of undergrad teaching in a department, it gives some indication of the strong departments.

Actually, NRC ranks all these depts. at public universities higher than Virginia (in roughly this order): Michigan, Penn State, Binghamton, UCSD, UCB, UCD, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Texas A&M, Pittsburgh, North Carolina, Washington, Wisconsin, Stony Brook, Florida State, Ohio State, Arizona, Minnesota, UCR, UCLA, Maryland, Kentucky, UCI, New Mexico, Colorado, Purdue, Texas, Missouri, Oregon, LSU, Iowa, Washington State, Nebraska, Rutgers, Arizona State, Kansas, Florida International, South Carolina, Georgia State, Mississippi, Temple, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, Wisconsin-Milwaukee

Proximity to DC might make it easier for some students to get internships, but it has nothing to do with whether it’s a strong department academically. In the NRC rankings, Georgetown is #62, JHU is #66, and American is #85.
