10 Days Until ED Decision! Who's Nervous?

Only 10 more days guys..am I the only one who's dying to know?!!?

Ahhhhhh! Same here

I am trying not to think about it but obviously since I’m here I’m not doing a very good job of that hah… Superrr nervous though. I wonder how far the acte will redrop this year. I have my fingers crossed.

What do you guy’s think were high points and low points of your app? Aughh so nervous…!

Well, considering I had an incredible alumni interview with a current Duke student (who knew my professor that I worked with while doing research at Duke this past summer in Neurotoxicology) that, when I asked him whether he felt I was right for Hopkins, told me “definitely. I think you are the exact person Hopkins needs and you would totally be a perfect fit.” He also chuckled saying that was one of the questions the admissions office asks him at the end!

And also considering I sent in a 1600 word photojournal for my common app essay along with a recommendation from my proffessor at Duke along with great recs from 2 AP teachers and a State director for NC Youth and government, I’d say the lowest point of my app is my standardized test scores… (35 Reading, 32 English, 28 Math, 30 Composite)

I’m really dying to know right now… Everything about Johns Hopkins just feels so right!

Hah wow seandonohue8. That’s pretty sick…! I admit, I am slightly jealous that you got to do research at Duke hah.

Anouchi, I’m in the same boat. I hear they release the notifications via email at about 6/7PM Eastern Time? Ugh that’s 9/10PM here in Cal…

Hmm I believe high points were my essay which was really creative and I really clicked with my alumni interview cause he was involved with music at Hopkins and I was really interested in that. I got some great letters of rec too from my IB and AP teachers and conselor. Low points I suppose are just test scorres as well. I got a 29 ACT so that’s pretty sketch for Hopkins standards. Heck, who knows. I really have no idea if I’m really ‘in’ or not…

Well…to make everyone feel even MORE uneasy…

I Have a very good friend who is a pulmonary specialist at Duke who also interviews for their medical school. We were talking today about getting into top tier schools and he basically told me that basically its a crap shoot whether you get in or not.

Let me explain before I get bum-rushed with arguments:
Although yes, all the parts of an application are vital to getting into the top schools, lets be honest guys. We are all at ABOUT the same test scores, ABOUT the same EC’s, ABOUT the same gpa’s, etc. Therefore, the point or two difference is not huge. The scary part is we are all in the same boat with 1,300 of people JUST like us.

We are all intelligent students, otherwise we wouldnt be applying to an institution as fine as Johns Hopkins. However, for the first time for many, we are put up against the best over-achievers in the nation and asked to stand out.

So (and I know I need to take my own advice) we all need to realize that no matter what happens on the 15th, we are all eligible and “good-enough” per se to attend a top tier school. It is mostly luck of the draw. As my friend from Duke said to me today, “Don’t think the guy next to you that got into Harvard or Yale is any smarter than you, because he’s not. Likewise, don’t think just because you get into Johns Hopkins you are any smarter than anyone else. You are just luckier!”

So Good luck to all of you!

haha I am totally in the same boat as all of you guys. It definitely is a crapshoot.

I believe we can all get in. If you’re on CC, chances are you’re a step above the average JHU applicant.

actually seasondu(sp)–not all 1300 applicants are basically the same in test scores etc.
there are in fact many applicants who apply who are below the threshold…more people who have weaker test scores decide to apply ED than RD to a school.

use the Admission Statistics for the Class of 2013 of Brown as an example: [Brown Admission: Facts & Figures](<a href=“Undergraduate Admission | Brown University”>Undergraduate Admission | Brown University)
^you get a mix of low scores (like your 30/1910) and high scores.
Being on CC just makes people think that only high scoring people apply to top schools.
The same is probably true about ECs too…i mean not everyone is able to find a cure for cancer :p

i am so so so so so nervous too … TT I hope i get in because i really don’t want to work on my essays again… (although i am working on them anyway --…)
i hope everybody here will get in! good luck guys

soo nervous!! ahh

Gah. I’d like to edit my post. Since I’m from Cal I’ll find out at 3/4 PM not 9/10PM haha… way to mess up the time zones…

Anywho, I’m putting off my essays for the other schools in the hope (!!!) that I get accepted… I already did UC’s but they’re offering no financial aid really and its going to take 5 years as oppposed to 4 to get a degree because of all the cuts. Yeah, sorry for the rant.

Keeping the fingers crossed!

One question: is it true that Hopkins calls your school on the 10th to ask for school information/ verify extracurrics and high school profile etc? My counselor didn’t send my high school profile to Hopkins and that made me really nervous. I talked to another guidance counselor and she said that Hopkins does that check in about 3-4 days.

wahkimoocow: at least some of those are recruited athletes who often apply ED.

^of course and URMs.

I’m going to give my counselor a heads up about this. Did JHU contact anyone about 1st quarter grades? They did not contact me, but many other top schools asks for 1st quarter grades.

^Nope, your counselor’s report for Hopkins should have everything they need.

I have never heard that Hopkins will call schools to verify ECs and such? Anyone have any info on this or can give me an answer.

Thanks

sighh… im so worried…like what anouchi said, everything about johns hopkins feel so right…:/

wow, that brown statistics thing is scary.

I’M SO SCARED.
