I have enrolled for two courses that are within 10 minute break (one ends at 11:50, other starts at 12). According to google maps it takes 4 minutes by bike to get from one building to another. But is it the same in reality? Do many students have this type of schedule? Do professors frequently end classes later than on schedule? Is it acceptable to be late for the lecture by 2 minutes?

If you tell us what the two buildings you are trying to get between we can be of more help.

The short answer - being late is completely acceptable, but rude. Professors/TAs don’t care if you take your education seriously or not, they do care that you are interrupting the lesson. You can show up all the time, sometime or none of the time honestly.

That said, if you do end up being late by some unfortunate event here are the general rules.

Large Lectures- No one cares/notice, just sit in the back
Small to Mid - take a seat and explain apologize to the professor after the class. If it is a consistent problem just let them know the circumstances. Communication is key.

Yes.

Sometimes I come ten minutes late, because I have to ask the professor from the previous class questions…

This may help. It’s a thread where many different routes were discussed last August.

@ Ellexux, Wilson to Monroe is definitely do-able in under 10 mins

Yes, it is.

This might help you figure out where buildings are located:

what about dell1 and gibson?

Gibson is on the South Lawn (next to Nau), while Dell 1 is behind the Curry School and next to the Physics building. It will probably take you 10-15 minutes.

If McCormick Bridge still took busses I’d suggest just waiting for the Trolley, but I guess that’s not an option anymore.

Through the busiest parts of the grounds at the busiest times, if you are traveling along sidewalks, you may be better off walking than riding a bike. Otherwise, it may take time to unlock the bike, find a place to secure it, and relock it, in addition to negotiating your way around the crowds.

My advice: If you know that you’re going to be consistently late to a class (or have to leave a class early), tell the professor. This does two things: 1) Sets you up to know the professor a little better 2) Shows that you have respect and are responsible.

–
HA! Dell 1 to Gibson?! Definitely will take you more than 10 minutes with the amount of people on grounds. If you run and avoid crashing into anyone, you may be able to do it.

Ruffner to Monroe is doable.

Haha, when I had class in Rouss/Robertson right before class in the Chem building I often ended up running on McCormick Rd (off the sidewalk), returning to the sidewalk if there was a car or bus coming. (Rouss to Chem is doable if you leave on time, it’s just that I often had questions to ask…)

LOL! It’s a struggle.

Yeah Dells to Gibson is not doable, especially considering the construction in Cabell hall which means you have to go all the way around to the far side of cabell, all the way down and out towards the bus stop, and then back around to the pedestrian bridge…
