100 Best Values in Public Colleges 2009-10

All

The following link has some new information on IU (28) and Purdue (46). However, one really needs to check how good is the individual department of interest. Again, if one chooses to go out-of state, the value ranking is likely to be different. I doubt that NCCH would rank higher than IU-B for an Indiana student.

For Chemistry Department (graduate), NCCH has better ranking (16) than Purdue (22) and IU (34) per the following link.

[url=<a href="http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-chemistry-schools/rankings%5DRankings">http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-chemistry-schools/rankings]Rankings</a> - Chemistry - Graduate Schools - Education - US News and World Report](<a href="http://content.kiplinger.com/tools/colleges/pubcollege.php?sortby=INRANK&orderby=flip&states%5B%5D=ALL&myschool%5B%5D=none&outputby=table%5DKiplinger.com%5B/url">http://content.kiplinger.com/tools/colleges/pubcollege.php?sortby=INRANK&orderby=flip&states%5B%5D=ALL&myschool%5B%5D=none&outputby=table)</p>

I do not think the difference in the ranking would make it worthwhile for the extra tuition at NCCH for Indiana students in this case. Going to IU-B for chemistry makes sense if one can get more scholarship.

My accountant told me a story of another client of his. They had gifted children, and a lot of money. They did live in Indiana. Hired a crazy expensive consultant to advise which school would be best overall for one of their sons. I don’t know anything about the boy except that he was pretty bright. Knowing money was no concern, they were advised that IU was THE best choice for him. Not just for value, though that’s obviously a big part of why IU is such a good option for many. Without all the details, the story doesn’t carry THAT much weight…but it was interesting nonetheless. (He told me this when I expressed the fact that my underachieving -think high test scores and lower gpe-daughter didn’t really want to stay instate).

Thanks for the interesting case.

My twin boys will be likely going to IU in 2011. They seemed to be happy in most college environments not to mention that they may be able to watch NCAA and Colts. I may have to let them take the car and promise for no frequent visits.

Go colts!!!
