100% need met. Really?

Okay so my question is if I do get accepted into a college that promises to meet 100% of need and they meet my need for freshman year and our income goes way down after that, so much so that our EFC decreases by about 8 to 10 K would they increase need-based aid or keep it the same? I'm talking about the schools that use CSS Profile.

Typically, yes. But, you have to realize…

There are **different types **of 100% need met schools.

Some meet 100% of need without loans.

Some meet 100% of need by including loans of various amounts in the FA packages.

So, if your EFC drops by $8-10 thousand, your “need” may be met by more loans.

Need is recalculated every year, and your EFC may go up or down. Check each school’s Common Data Set section H for their loan practices.

@mom2college kids and @vossron - Thanks so much. See my dad had to retire in the mid of this year due to health reasons. So our tax returns will only reflect this next year. I’m quite nervous in wondering whether I can estimate costs correctly.
