@mommdc havent gotten a fin aid package yet but its Cornell! We can do whatever it takes! If i have to get my whole city to help me I will because im going to Cornell!!!
^^^^Congrats for getting into your dream school!! Hopefully they will be generous with aid. Let us know.
@suzyyq Will Do!!!
Please remember to factor in TRAVEL costs to and from your U and your home, if you expect to make any trips between those two locations in the 4 years you’re in college. Be sure you don’t let your enthusiasm for a “brand name” and/or “dream” school overcome the practical realities of what it may be like to graduate with crushing debt. Remember, many students change their majors in college and $100,000 or similar is an awful lot to shoulder, plus interest as it will grow.
Congrats!
5,500 is the number that always comes up on CC, but all of my packages including my NEU package allowed for 6,500. Is there a change or is that 1,000 loan something different?
Congratulations!
Please update us when you get the financial aid package .
Note: how come you know you got in, isn’t Ivy Day March 30?
@MYOS1634 I think cornell’s diversity day was yesterday (according to the 2017 parents thread)
OK Thanks.
Cornell? Awesome. Congrats. I hope the finances work out for you.
Do not take on large debt for undergraduate school. It is not worth it. If you don’t get enough aid at any of the private schools to which you are accepted, go for a good state school.

The $6,500 loan might include a Perkins loan. I believe that will no longer be available in future years.
Yes. I found out early because they are flying me out to the diversity open house. I am a first generation college student who was accepted IVY, they are guranteed to at least offer me 25k per year. You guys may or may not understand, but my mom and I can work with 100k debt for Cornell if that is the case. Plus Ive applied to many outside scholarships and I have already won 2 as of today. With my moms help, my dreams can come to fruition and it would be a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to attend. If they offer me even more thats awesome too. In my package in the mail they also said they would match any aid/scholarship offer from any other school of a comparable level. So im excited because im #Cornell2021 !!!
No school is worth $100k in debt for undergrad. Such a bad, life altering decision.
it wouldnt be 100k in debt neccasarily, we will pay as we go. i merely mean 100k cost overall @itsgettingreal17 plus thats 100k without subtracting the 20k i have in outside scholarships
Twice now you’ve said “100k in loans,” “100k debt,” and then claimed you didn’t mean 100k in loans/debt. If you want financial advice in the future, maybe try to be very specific and accurate – hard to advise otherwise.
@bodangles i apologize for the miscommunication. i’ll be sure to be more specific in future threads and responses
FINAL UPDATE: Cornell offered me a total of 54K in grant aid and I will be attending!
Thank you to all of you for your support along this journey. I truly appreciate it!
