101 Reasons to go to Harvard

^you're joking right?

No haha. I'm sorry, how do you know?

Or was it a joke to begin with?

well, is he?

Look him up on wikipedia and the rest will speak for itself.

Yes, it's true - Lou Dobbs. Also, the Unabomber. But after 372 years, you've got to expect a couple bad outcomes.

His article doesn't say where he plans to go to college. He COULD go to Harvard if he wanted, there is no question. But a majority of IMO/IPO kids seem to pick MIT or Princeton.

um...how about some primary sources. I'm good friends with the guy. Harvard is his one and only choice(he was considering Stanford at one point, but ultimately decided he'll just apply to H).

Arnav says "dude..." :)

Well trust me, I truly hope he gets in and decides to attend. I'm excited every time I meet a new future physics major from Harvard, and he seems like just about the best of the best.

I wonder whether you made that page himself...

HAHAHA no I didn't, but I've helped update it. :)

@White_Rabbit: He's ours! :P (and by ours I mean chemistry major)

Oops, I meant to say, "I wonder whether he made that page himself..." (as indicated by the pronoun "himself").

I don't know why there would be an article on him... he hasn't caused that much of a splash. I don't know of any other ISEF winners who have Wikipedia articles, either. Seems pretty, uh, self-absorbed. ;)

lol @ this part:

[quote]
Many forget that in 2006 he was a National Chemistry Olympiad finalist who declined the invitation to take part in the study camp./quote

Haha, I know who made the article (it wasn't him). You don't think so? 150K in prize money before senior year and he has a lot more coming from STS/Siemens/ISEF Reno next year. He's not self-absorbed, far from it. He's just got an immense fanbase, that's all.

He has a "fanbase"? Sure, he's got awesome credentials, but there are many other amazing students like him (such as the other two ISEF winners) who don't have Wikipedia articles.

Does anyone know where the other two ISEF winners are going?

^Mitka and Jack are Harvard '11.

Yes, and instead they have facebook groups of them made by their fans. I don't see why you take so much exception, he's to science as Viscardi is to math...are you really going to criticize michael for having a wiki article? They both have fanbases (actually, all four of them) whether you like it or not. =/

(I guess it's an ISEF thing: takes one to know one)

^^ I can tell you like him, piccolojunior, which is why you're defending him, though I'm not sure whom I'm criticizing (if he had nothing to do with it, then obviously not him). Perhaps I'm just disdaining his "fanbases" ("whether I like it or not," as you would say). I also found it funny that the page was more like his resume, going on about things that he didn't even participate in, but that he qualified for ("Many forget...").

I don't see why Viscardi has a page, either. That's the sort of thing that, IMO, undermines the value of Wikipedia (though of course it isn't the only thing).

Sure, to you and other recent high school graduates, and probably more so those who participated in ISEF and the like, winning these things is significant--but in the grand scheme of things, most of it isn't. Some of it's neat to know about, but much of it doesn't really cause much of a splash.

Anyway, tangent end.

The thing is, I don't evaluate the achievements in that scope either. If anything, my bias comes from knowing the details of his research rather than seeing the number of checks he's cashed. As for your antagonism towards the "fanbase" (and derailment of this thread >_>): If some of the most disingenuous and idiotic people can have a constituency, why can't he?

and derailment of this thread >_>

Sorry, piccolojunior, but the thread had long derailed, and you only further derailed it by challenging me and hammering your point.

I'm not saying he can't, and I haven't said my thoughts re: disingenous and idiotic people and their fanbases (e.g. Azia Kim's). Nor do I want to. I don't know why you've persisted on this. I just think it's funny that he has a resume-like page on Wikipedia and that he has a fanbase loyal enough to make such a poorly-written page.

I mean nothing against you; but again, tangent end. (Talk about further derailing...)
