Can it be OK?

If it's 1,000 maximum, yes, it will be ok, but do a review and see if there's any non-substansive words that could be knocked out and sentences that could be tightened up.

if they let you put it all in the box yes. if a little error message pops up, no. i would be surprised if you could fit yours, i believe mine was too long at around 1150

too long. just cut words out. its pretty easy. keep it under 1k

i was at a UC application workshop at my school, and they said it cuts you off at around 1062 words.

dude they truly don't give a **** unless it won't even let you send. i talked to the ucla guy at college night and they said they dont' care. i think the site caps you off at like 1100 or something like that. i dunno

In general, it won't matter. But if the excess length worries you, I am confident that you can cut out fifty words.

My counselor told me that you really want to try to keep it under 1,020.

all counselors say that

Yes, but remember the prompt said to keep it to 1,000 as close as you can. They said a "little over" - 1,012 is fine. I doubt they meant 1,050 or more. But again, that's just my opinion.

The site cuts you off at 1100. So I guess 1050 should work.

why do you guys write so much? my essays were 850 total. The min is 250 per essay, and 1,000 max total. It doesnt say that you HAVE to do exactly 1,000 words or above 1,000

I think a better question is: how do you write so little; and, no it doesn't explicitly say they have to be 1000 words, but it does say, "less is not more." I personally would not be comfortable knowing my essays lacked 150 words of content, providing, of course, the essays were actually substantive.

reading 50 words will take you less than 30seconds.....they are not gonna care...

If they tell you to keep it as close to 1,000 as you can, and you go way above their example of 1,012 being okay (such as 1,075 or more), it's pretty obvious you're disregarding their instructions and not trying to keep yourself in the region where they told you to be. Try thinking of it from the point of an admissions counter who sees that word count next to your essay.

Colleges set a maximum/minimum to see if you can write terse, concise prompts while answering their questions. If you cannot follow such a simple task, it shows the counselor what kind of student you are.

Exactly what I think, too. (congrats. on your low word count in explaining that as compared to mine!)

LOL That made my day, dmission. I had to write the same comment over and over on separate threads/forums.. and yeah.

what about total 1018words?

haha, Castel

Torrancecali: i think that's fine
