10th grade PSAT and 7th grade SAT

I'm really depressed and don't know what to do or think. I thought I would do pretty well on the PSAT because in 7th grade I got 530 Math and 580 Verbal for a total score of 1,110 and usually people get better over time, don't they? I also did well on the private school admission test (the SSAT), scoring in the 97th percentile overall compared to other independent school kids.

But I bombed the PSAT. I got: 58 Critical Reading, 55 Math and 64 Writing Skills. I don't know what to do, except I guess I'd better study, study, study before I take the SAT when it really counts. Has anyone else ever had this experience of dropping down so much? I've always tested in the top 95% at least but usually closer to the top 2%, so this is a shocker. I don't know if I can even be thinking of top LAC's anymore.

Please advise a dejected 15 year old.

Befuddled

oh....poor baby...I dunno...maybe you started filling in your answers wrong?

Trust me, the PSAT is really not an accurate representation of how you will do on the real thing. I took the PSAT 2 times and got an 1110 both times. I got pretty angry and worried but on the real thing, I got a 1310 on my first try. Just study a reasonable amount and do what is necessary to improve your skills. And dont feel dejected. Remember, you are only 15 and you have a good amount of time to prepare. Just keep your head up and be optimistic. I found that being optimistic helps more than anything because when you tell yourself you are going to do well, you actually end up doing better. Best of luck to you.

Have you gotten your booklet back yet so you can analyse what went wrong?

Your PSAT doesn't matter this year. In fact, it doesn't really matter ever. The only thing it will get you are scholorships and not every place will give you one. There are also other ways to get scholorships. Don't stress over the PSAT, it's not worth it.

This year's psat curve is tough. Maybe because the algebra II addition and the removal of analogy? My son had no improvement from 8th grade satI to freshman psat.

will

Why did all of you take the SAT in middle school? I know I sure didn't. I didn't even think I could. Isn't there an age limit?

Many 7th grade students take the SAT to participate in talent search programs, such as Duke's TIP program (the US is divided in to areas for different programs).

i took the sat in mid school.

Dude, my psat scores as a junior were terrible. I didn't study, and I had no clue what it was even for. I got like... 66v 58m 54w lol... I misread the directions on the writing section. Well, anyway, I ended up getting a 1420 SAT (800v) and a 740 on writing (I suck at grammar) later that year.

Did you study for the SAT? My grammar is lousy too. At least I don't have to actually write an essay, or do I? I don't know how I did better in 7th grade, except that the SAT was on a computer because ETS was testing whether that would be a good way to go so it was computer adapted. If you got a question right, it automatically bumped you up to a harder one and if you got one wrong it bumped you down. So the whole thing took less than half the time of the regualar SAT and it was cool doing it on a computer. So I'm worried it was a fluke that I scored well back then and maybe my real level is closer to what I got this time. That's what making me nervous. I need to hear from people who got their score up. Thanks.
