10th Grade PSATs

Would appreciate hearing from 11th and 12th graders - How much did your PSAT scores go up from 10th to 11th? And were your SAT scores similar to your 11th grade PSATs?

I got a 196 sophomore year and a 214 junior year. Sophomore year all I did was take the practice test they gave us the night before, and Junior year I took the practice test and did the sample problems they have on collegeboard.com and maybe looked over some other stuff. I didn't study huge amounts either time, but I suppose the little bit of extra studying helped my score the 2nd time around. And I find out my SAT score tomorrow. bleh.

203 sophomore year, don't remember prepping at all, so that doesn't bode well for the possibility that I did. 221 junior year, took the practice test before, but the biggest difference to me was just knowing more stuff from another year of school, particularly higher math.

Thanks for the info, and good luck on your SAT scores, semmpand.

Another Q - My son's sophmore scores (with no prep) were all over the place - 76M, 62V, 48W

Is this unusual?

As a sophomore, i got a 184 ( i know, horrible) but as a junior, i got a 222; that's a 38-pt jump. Granted, I took practice tests junior year and memorized more vocab and actually kinda prepped. If you just become familiar with the format, and prepare a bit, you'll do fine.

Sophomore year, I got 165 (R 50/M 59/W 56) because all I did was the practice test, but junior year I got 200 (R 63/M 73/W 64) due to all the info learned over an year; I did nothing except take the practice test (which I shouldn't have done; I should've prepped a lot more).

196 soph to 225 junior. no prep but lots of luck!

208 sophomore year to 226 junior. I took an ACT/PSAT prep class at school, but it was basically ACT prep. The night before I took a practice PSAT test and did some of the sample SAT problems from collegeboard. Luckily I actually knew the vocab words on the test... since I didn't study them all like I should have...

I went from 223 sophomore year to 231 junior year. I did some prep both times, albeit more for junior year. I just studied the SAT -- format, questions, practice...

After just getting my SAT scores from January, I can say the PSAT junior year is a pretty accurate indicator, though there is room for improvement (for example I studied a lot of vocab for the actual SAT).

198 soph psat, 193 junior psat, 2230 junior sat...no idea why my scores zigzagged like that lol...

I did very poorly. My school administers the PSAT for 9th grade honors students as well as all 10th and 11th grade students. I received a 189, 215, and 213 successively. I went down 2 points from sophomore to junior year. It hurt especially because I was aiming for national merit scholarship qualification. :(

Fortunately, the outcome of the PSAT did not effect my SAT results at all. :)

lol 205 (11th grade PSAT), and a 2210 (11th grade SAT)

10th grade PSAT - 209
11th grade PSAT - 221
January SAT - 2240

all of you have done better on the SAT than the PSAT, but I got a 214 on the PSAT, and just got my scores today for the SAT and got a 2040.

228 sophomore, 233 junior. Expecting over 2300 from January SAT but my score has been put on hold as have all other Korean scores.

Thanks. This is all very helpful. My son was very happy with his math score and now is motivated to prep for the writing/grammar section.
