10th Grade Repeats? Are you out there?

I'm repeating my 10th Grade year and I was wondering if there was anyone else out there that applied as a 10R as well?!

representt!!! where are you headed?

here! ditto on the where you headed

Heyllo:)

I'm here tooooo.

How old are you guys?

I'm here!...will anyone else be a 17 year old sophomore?

I applied to repeat to 2, Im going to one of them. Im a young sophomore right now, and technically I should be in the grade below anyway. Ill actually still be 15 by the beginning of next yr like all the normal sophomores. I'll probably just have one of the earlier birthdays in late September.

17 as well

wow, you guys are really old.
I'll have just turned 15 in the fall, but i'm not a repeat.

Ya thats like me when I was entering sophomore year, and I was one of the youngest. I have to think ill be one of the oldest (not amongst repeats).. I won't be turning 17 till junior yr at SPS though

You'll be like around average age now. There's a 3rd former at SPS now who'll be turning 17 next year, but he was a repeat 3rd former.

Do you guys really think it's worth doing another year over again just to get into BS? I mean, what are the pros & cons. I'm young for my grade, but I didn't want to redo another year of schooling with the costs/time/effort, etc.

The decision of repeating wasn't based solely on getting into BS. For the reasons that I did choose to repeat, yes it's worth it for me. jasmyn: Im not making an important decision on my life based on the fact that my "friends" will graduate before me. You will most likely lose contact with all of them other than the close ones when your gone for 2 yrs anyway.

My decision was based on many different pros and cons. The cons may out weigh the pros for some people...but not me. It would be different if I had to graduate at 19 or something, that would be a huge con I probably couldn't over come, but I don't have to.

^^ j/w, Will you be getting F/A or are you full pay?

I thought about repeating-- I mean, you'll be working your whole life, and your teenage years are only like a small part of your life. ( reason I want to go to BS, I think it'll be like a once in a lifetime kind of thing, which is different from college 'cuz usually you won't have houseparents, formal dinners weekly, small schools < 300, caring faculty, nor trips together)
( might as well enjoy not working for anyone besides your parents, worry about trivial matters, and not have big responsibilities -pay bills, make $$ , worry about where to work, family, etc. )

But, I think my cons outweight the pros..

Things happen for a reason - and I think everything will turn out swell in the end;

The extra year won't cost of them anything, there paying 20k now for me to go to my school. They will be paying 3k a yr at sps, so the year won't hurt financially.

You guys are wicked old. I'm only 13.

Hey are you guys repeating at your normal school and then applying or did u apply for the same grade and you are repeating there.

Most people apply for the same grade that they are in now and repeat at bs.

Exactly. For example, I'm in 10th Grade now at public school, but then I'll be in 10th grade next year at Boarding School. (You can't forget the curriculum is going to be far from similar and we don't have to repeat any classes we've already taken) It's basically the gift of time.

Does it make admissions easier because then I might do it. Otherwise why would you want to repeat a year.

In the sense that your a year older and may have done more and accomplished more yes...Simply applying as a repeat just puts your file in the 10th grade pool. Im sure many times they don't even recognize the applicant is a repeat. But, in some schools (such as SPS)..they accept about 5, 11th graders. So if the interviewer likes you, they may urge you (depending on birth date)..to simply repeat if you want to have a chance.

Whereas at Exeter/Andover I applied as 11th grade because a good number of 11th graders get in, due to the larger size. And the fact that I wasn't in love with either so it wouldn't be worth repeating for a better chance
