I could only get 11 credits in since the honors students and upperclassman get first priority so I could only pick up the last few seats in the courses that I need. Unfortunately I could only pick up 11 credit hours. Is this a bad situation?

At most colleges, you’ll need to average 15 or 16 per semester to graduate on time. There may also be a minimum per semester to maintain full time status (e.g. for financial aid and scholarships).

You may have to find an open class somewhere that can fulfill a breadth requirement or something to ensure that you are taking enough of a course load.

12 is usually the minimum for full time status.

Did you register on the first possible day? Can you meet with your advisor and look over other possible courses that are available to meet requirements? Do you have “electives” to fill? Does your school allow you to get on a waiting list for courses in case seats become available. The first week of classes, people are always adding/dropping so something might open up for you if you are at the top of the list.
