'11 Eph here, if you have any questions!

Carlsbaddad, GTAlum really hits the nail on the head regarding GU. GU students really spend a lot of time off campus, at Georgetown bars and other interesting parts of DC. Plus the basketball team plays at the Verizon Center while other sports don’t draw much student interest. Therefore, GU probably has a much less interesting campus life than the typical New England LAC.

Carlsbaddad…S1 had narrowed down his final 3 to Georgetown, Cornell (Honors Program) and Williams. Upon re-visiting during Preview week, he thought he’d fit in really well with the other incoming Freshman. He liked the current students and how laid back they were. Not the “preppy” atmosphere he thought he’d find. He also enjoyed viewing the professor/student interactions while sitting in on a few classes.

Georgetown’s overwhelming attraction for S1 was Washington D.C. and all it has to offer. Regarding the town of Williamstown, initially, he thought he’d find it too rural and suffocating, but after the 2nd visit, he is very happy to be an Eph, Class of 2015!

Welcome to all you new minted Ephs. I can’t believe we won’t be around Williams next year with you all. This four years has gone by so fast.

S is working so hard on his last semester. No senioritis. Full speed ahead. And he has really grown intellectual. I see a tremendous different. And he does have some fairly proactive steps in mind, which for him is totally amazing.

My son has turned the corner and will be coming to Williams in the fall. A phone call from a math prof last night and the realization that Houston (Rice) is far from home tipped it for him.

He is hoping to connect with other math/physics students at Williams and be able to make some like-minded friends. At Harvey Mudd and Olin, he just needed to walk in the door and he found his tribe. It might take a little bit more effort at Williams but I think he will be fine. The math department does seem fantastic!!

mythmom: That is good he is coming up with some plans on his own. I did hear that one weakness at Williams is career/post graduate planning. Congrats to your son!!

Congrats to your and your son mythmom!

Shelldemeo: Welcome to your son!! Congratulations.

GTatum and Shelldemeo – Thanks for the congratulations. I can’t believe both mine are through will college. It’s really strange.

For food shopping, there is a small store on the main Spring Street, as well as a Stop & Shop and Rite Aid about a 3 minute drive towards North Adams. In terms of clothes, there is the Berkshire Mall in Pittsfield, which is about 45 minutes away. I’ve only been shopping there once, it wasn’t too bad. There are also clothing outlets in Lee, MA, which is about an hour away but really nice. There is one or two stores on Spring Street but I’d bet they’re pretty expensive, I don’t know anyone who shops there.

The Berkshire Mall is in Lanesboro, not Pittsfield, and it is only twenty minutes away. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve driven that stretch. Pittsfield is only thirty minutes away.

Where’s better to live if you want a roommate, mission or frosh quad? I want a double, but it seems like the entries in Frosh aren’t as close.

Do you think it’s okay to have a single as a freshman or would it be harder to make friendships? I’m not the most outgoing person, but I also like privacy some times. I’m worried that my roommate and I would not get along.

Yeah, I also want to know about housing. I know it’ll probably be biased, but mission vs. frosh quad? Are the entries not as close? Pros and cons?

Hi everyone! I just joined the Williams Class of 2015 and would like to know how is the Career & Post Graduate Advising Service like in Williams? Can you give some solid examples? Thanks!

All of the housing and class stuff came out today, so…

BUMP!

(I’ve been talking to my friends and am so happy that Williams is so open with classes… lots of them have their schedules already decided by the college, and I feel like we have much more freedom.)

Excuse me kdurs11: where did you find all the housing and class information?

If you go onto the site where we checked the app status (myapplication . Williams . Edu) and use the same login info, you can access everything. However, I’m waiting for the packet before I actually do anything.

Hi, I just got accepted as a transfer to Williams this fall. I have to make my decision in a week but before then I have some questions I hope can be answered here:

Given that Williams is very much located in an isolated countryside, what do people do outside of classes and extracurricular activities there, whether in dorms, on campus, or off campus?

How easy is it to go to larger towns like NY/Boston and how often do most Williams students make the trip?

For current students who come from relatively urban areas, what do you miss most about being removed from the city, and what do you like best about being in the countryside?

Thanks!

OP, Were there many students in your class who are from the UK? If so, are they mostly American kids who attended an American school in London or are they actually British? I am just trying to gauge what sort of local competition my son will have when he applies. Thanks. Jackuk
