Well, it's pretty sad if you don't nkow how to write, analyze poems, or have any critical skills.

listen azmodan. you prolly dont speak spanish or come from a spanish background. its easy to tear the house down, harder to build the house.

the problem is that its not how we dont noe how to write or analyze. its more difficult when in another language. and this doesnt just apply to spanish it can be applicable to anything

"the problem is that its not how we dont noe how to write or analyze. its more difficult when in another language." are you supposed to write your answers in english?

otherwise you just proved my point.

i am refering to the ap spanish literature test that is done in spanish (i assume- i dont noe this for a fact bc i never took it). but if the questions were in english (which i dont noe bc my school never offered spanish lit only lang) then you are correct.

and even if the questions are in english, the text is in spanish. i am not saying its impossible but it requires hard work to suceed on that test.

did you even read the thread?

the guy is a native spanish speaker. understanding the questions should be no problem for him.

Ranked 5 out of 400? You are in, easily, at all of those places, if you can bring up the writing SAT II.

Your ignorance amazes me, Azmodan.

First of all, the AP Spanish Literature test is a terribly crafted test, my cynical friend. I am a Mexican-American who got 5s on both of the English Exams, and I can say they are both fairer than the AP Spanish lit test. Whereas the Lit Spanish test tests on almost solely memorization of a bunch of poets written by two-bit poets important only to the Americans (during the whole course I didn't read a single work of note other than Lazarrito and Don Quijote), the AP English exams test on your ability to write and analyze writing.

Secondly, most of you white kids actually don't do so sharp on the English exam, in fact, whereas most Naive Spanish speakers at least pass the exams, there is about a 24% fail rate for the English.

Thirdly, finally, and most importantly, you're an ignorant idiot with no sense of culture.

Someone likes to cry racism.

English speakers are competing against english speakers on the english test, of course some of them are going to do worse than others and therefore get 1's and 2's.

If you're a native spanish speaker than the reading should be cake and you should have no problem with it.

The AP Exams (and all the other collegeboard exams) Are scored objectively and there is no curve except for one or two questions every year that everyone misses and is removed from the scoring. Perhaps you ought to research your arguments a little better.

The percentages of people who get certain scores is held relatively constant. The only way for everyone to get 5's would be for everyone to tie.

I understand marko. Azmodan's ignorant; AP Spanish Lit is definitely not easy; unlike SAT II CHinese, which is ridiculously easy for Chinese-speaking-and-writing people, AP Spanish Lit, since there're so many hispanic people in the U.S., is indeed hard. Most of the test-takers are hispanic too.
However, marko, don't get mad...be calm. Others' igonorance shouldn't trigger your temper...

Yes, I'm so ignorant because I think someone should be able to understand readings in their own native language.

He has a huge advantage over most other test takers and he couldn't capitalize upon it, what does that say about him?

OK...azmodan...you are english native and why did you get a 4?? look....if you live here, the collegeboard KNOWS WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO KNOW IN ORDER TO BE IN A COLLEGE LEVEL...THEY DONT MAKE IT HARDER!! its obvious that they want you to know all that stuff...not less not more...so we are in the same situation, that i am a native doesnt mean i speak that language everyday, OR ANALYZE POEMS EVERYDAY!. I wonder...why a mexican-american got a 5 and you didnt?? if you are suppose to know what you ask me...("I think someone should be able to understand readings in their own native language.") can you??
At least I take a class to learn something that I dont know, and I didnt know how to analyze poems, or read literature. Thats the reason that I took the class. I didnt know how to analyze literature!! probably you were born with the knowledge of analyzing poems in your native language. And if its a "huge advantage" then you had a "huge" advantage over Tsunami didnt you?? he is a mexican and still HE BEATED YOU?!?!?! why? and to top it off.....in the AP English Language not Literature. Literature I could comprehend (because i have taken that class, apparently you havent...cuz you dont know lit)but Language??
And thanks to everyone that help me beat another ignorant....thanks

I took the test without taking the class, both of you idiots actually took the class for the tests =)

There is a distinct difference between AP Spanish Language and Spanish Literature. Most of the literature in the latter test is much like the equilvalent of "old English" in Spanish. Sometimes it doesn't even reprint passages of the literature, and requires the test taker to remember certain texts. I know many people who earned a 5 easily on the Spanish Language test, and earned only a 3 on the Spanish Literature test.
You probably could get into UCB- just apply and see how it goes. It's a great school, and I'm not quite sure if they actually stopped AA... but your SAT IIs are good. The fact that you came here only four years ago could be a good topic for an essay, and could almost negate the low verbal sat score.. If you have the chance, go ahead and retake it- it's all a matter of practice. Best of luck!

Actually I took AP English Language without taking the class as well as AP European History without taking the class and scored 5s on them- both of which require great ability in writing (The DBQ itself actually tests on your ability to write rather than to know history as does the US test.)

And yes, the AP Spanish Literature test is a terrible test. You MUST know all the works on some list with authors from the 22 spanish speaking countries in the world, all of which speak different dialects, not to mention the fact that several works are in archaic Spanish.

It's nothing like the AP English Lit Test where you go in there and write the essays about whatever book you feel comfortable about and answer questions based on the analyzation of poems and prose rather than memorization questions on some archaic slab of Lazarillo De Tormes.

It would be like reading Francis Bacon or something and testing on the nuances of his works.

Yes Tsunami and also the authors are from different country making it harder for the students to know the type of language they use (even though they are all spanish they are different).

Now, azmodan..."I took the test without taking the class, both of you idiots actually took the class for the tests =)"...you know...yeah I am currently TAKING the class, and I dont care!! I want to see you get into a country as a freshman, not knowing the language, with your parents not knowing that language (therefore cant help), getting into GATE as a sophomore, take MORE AP classes that what your school offers (and any other student student has taken), helping your parents because they are not college graduates (even with the minimum help i can give in my house), taking care of your brother, be in sports, AND OVERALL.....not failing any of the 4 APs you have taken AND with your high school been ranked ~600 where 85% of the students dont go to a university.
Probably I will fail the AP English test , or pass with a 3(probably because my high school passing rate is 5%)...but you know what, I dont care...cuz if I get to improve my English....its all good to me. And I hate when people call me idiot cuz they dont know my situation and I put a lot of effort into school.

are you even here legally?

I dont have to answer that but I will....just for YOU!!!! YEAH!!! I AM HERE LEGALLY!!!
MY GRANDFATHER WORKED IN THE US!!! and what do you have against people that cross illegally?? MY TEACHER WAS ILLEGAL...WHAT DO YOU HAVE AGAINST THEM?? THEY ARE JUST LOOKING FOR A BETTER PLACE, AND ALL THEY WANT TO DO IS WORK!!

That racist isn't worth your time, Marko. You should just ignore him. The loser'll go away eventually if we give him the silent treatment.
