Hi I was recently rejected from UWC as a semifinalist and have since really gotten interested in going to a boarding svhool for my 11th/12th grade. I am a URM (Latina) and had a 3.89 GPA last year as a freshman in AP euro and a 3.7this year taking to AP clases (bio and world history). I would need FA as I come from a single parent household. I am currently looking at Annie wright but am open to suggestions including second tier schools. I am in debate, band volunteer at the food bank and animal shelter as well as my church, am in Spanish honor society which involves tutoring 2 hours a week and am also in Hispanic honor society in my community for the past 4 years. I have been a NSLIY semifinalist 2 years in a row. I am from Washington state too if that would make a difference. I would be willing to look at schools anywhere and am hoping to make a list of ones that would fit
do you have like a singular question or goal you want answered?
Junior year is very competitive, and usually goes to recruited athletes who are able to immediately make an impact to the team. Further, requiring FA makes the process even harder. What schools are you looking at?
@blender420 Sorry if this wasn’t clear in my post but I am looking for school suggestions.
@babymalcolm I am currently looking at Annie Wright, A+ Academy, Phillips Exeterr, Emma Willard, and Chatham Hall. I am looking for suggestions and am willing to look at second tier schools, what’s important to me is a good fit.
I definitely think your URM status will help a lot. but however, the junior year thing and the fa def make it more competitive. now it’s really up to your essays, how well you do your interview stuff like that.
but as @babymalcolm said before, junior + senior + pg spots are mostly reserved for athletic people so oof but you have a chance. you have good grades, pretty good ec’s and the such.
Usually isn’t always. My friend transferred to Andover as a junior. No sports…although that was many moons ago.
@blender420 do you have any school suggestions? If it helps my PSAT score is the 89th percentile
Bump
89 is a very good score but you will need well over 90 for Andover or Exeter to be really competitive --especially as an incoming junior. Further I would focus on less hardcore schools. With your scores and grades --your grades could take a huge hit at a top tier school. (just because they are so hard and the transition can be tough) You might fair better academically (transition and be in a better position to stand out as a college applicant) at Emma Willard, Mercersburg, Tabor, Episcopal etc
