11th Math Marks. Future effect on UC Berkeley application?

Same :-S

Oxford and Cambridge both require JEE as a pre-condition for entry with 90% in each of the 5 subjects taken. If you still haven’t looked at the interview questions, I suggest you to go through it once :-S the questions literally slaughtered me lol :))

I have a few questions -
1- Does Oxford offer some scholarship like the MSS?
2-Does Oxford conduct interviews in India? If they do in UK, wouldn’t it be too expensive?
3-Does Oxford also require - “To be shortlisted for an interview such applicants will need to have achieved a minimum CGPA of 9.8 and grade A1 in class X examinations in the relevant subjects”??? I know they additionally take MAT at British Embassy.

Well, I don’t know about scholarships. I don’t need them so I haven’t researched into it yet. As for interviews, NO. Unlike Cambridge, they won’t come to India to interview every applicant. It’ll be on Skype, telephone, or video conferencing. But to get shortlisted for an interview, You’ll have to perform really well in MAT.On the website it says ‘’ We can’t guarantee interviews to the international students". Mail them regarding JEE qualifications, they may ask for it as you want to pursue computing.

I’ve started preparing for MAT.

and one more thing, @halamadrid do they accept TOEFL scores in place of IELTS? And , do we have to take IELTS or TOEFL before interviews or we can take it afterwards also?

You can take it after completing your board exams.
Yes some unis accept TOEFL scores. It would be better to check the websites of unis you want to apply to.

Thank you @halamadrid for giving me so much knowledge… which universities in the UK are you applying for?
I guess you are a very big fan of Real Madrid…me toooo that’s why #halamadrid! Well, I think i’m ineligible for the interview at Cambridge as I had got an A2 in math…huh…do you think so

I’m afraid bro ! Don’t get emotionally attached to a single school man, keep your options open.
As in for UK,

  1. Oxford/ Cambridge ( most probably Oxford ) My mind changes a lot lol. I know I’m not going to get in.
  2. Uni. of Manchester
  3. Uni. of Bristol
  4. King’s College London
  5. Yet to decide.
    YEAH I’m a big fan of CR7. :x

BTW what unis are you thinking of applying to ? UK as well as US

Well I’m going to apply to-
in UK
1- Cambridge
2- UCL
3- King’s College London
4- Imperial College London
5- Univ of Manchester

In US
1- University of California, Berkeley
2-Harvard
3-Yale
4-Princeton
5-UPenn
6-Cornell
7-CalTech
8-MIT
9-Stanford
10-CMU
11-Dartmouth

Keep some safeties bro. All the unis you have listed are SUPER-SUPER-SELECTIVE. :stuck_out_tongue:

yeah, Also GaTech and IllinoisTech  Would be a pain into ass writing those amounts of essays! :D

You have a great chance at Berkeley if you do well on SAT tbh, you’ll get into every UK uni you have listed ( Skeptical about Cambridge) :)) It’s a dream for everyone

Aren’t you applying to US Universities ? Have you taken SAT, SAT2 anything yet?

No, I’m not thinking of applying to US unis really. First of all, SAT, SAT IIs and other exams are very costly. It’s not like I can’t afford it, but I don’t want to take them anyway. Even after taking them there’s no guarantee that I’ll get into a top uni. It’s like wasting my time. Second thing, financial aid. Getting into a top uni with financial aid is nearly impossible. Need-bind unis are already so difficult to get into. Even if I get in, It’ll not be affordable. To study in a top UK uni is better than studying in a lower-ranked uni in the States. That is the main reason I’m very much keen on UK unis
as far as extracurricular, I’ve achieved nothing remarkable. :frowning: I’m a National soccer player that’s it. Joined some clubs and held some local concerts. I can’t really go far with these extracurricular. I don’t want to be in a hopeless situation in the end because of some fancy whims of studying in some top US universities. :)

Yeah, I’m was in the same boat like you, until my friend a Regent’s and Chancellor’s scholar at Berkeley said me why should I apply to US Universities. Yeah SAT, SAT2, especially TOEFL and AP are very costly, and also there’s no guarantee, but what if you fail to score 90% in the boards or you’re unable to get a decent rank in JEE Advance?
IMHO you consider both options. thanks  But, I love Cambridge as my role model Stephen Hawking studied there, also Cambridge is worldwide known for it’s sciences. And you’re a national soccer player, what’s more cool than that? Harvard loves players and leaders!
I have a question, would be really helpful if you answer them-
1- Would my counsellor have to upload my 10th mark sheet and predict my 12th board marks?

Not every uni asks for 90% and JEE advanced. only Oxford, Cambridge, and maybe Imperial requires, Manchester asks for 80% in boards, Bristol requires 85% and King’s college 90%. That’s it. Even universities like Glasgow and Sheffield ( Top 50-60 unis in the world) require 75%. Consider a Uni in US which is ranked somewhere between 50-60 and imagine how tough is it to gain admission into these Unis (with sufficient financial aid). This is the year you don’t want to lose your track. Getting bad marks in XI and XII internal examinations can jeopardize the chances of getting into any top university in States. Giving me 90% in XII half yearly is something I don’t expect from my school. However, Getting good marks in XII UTs and half yearly exams can compensate for bad marks in XI and Unis will ignore XI grades, but I don’t expect it from my school. Ivy league Unis love players, but Harvard won’t accept me just because I was the leading strike player in my National soccer team.
As for the uploading part, I have to ask my counselor as well lol

Yeah I have to agree with you on this… ; , but UK unis also cost almost the same as the Public universities in the US

Undergrad in UK takes 3 years ( EXCEPT Scottish schools ), while in US- It takes 4 years. Tuition fee is comparable ( I still doubt it ). :expressionless: :stuck_out_tongue:
