11th Math Marks. Future effect on UC Berkeley application?

Hi, I have just completed my 11th Class. The Problem is that I scored 80+ in all the subjects except Math because I had very high fever before the exam. I scored a 55/100 on my math exam, and overall math marks came down to 62.5/100. Now I am very scared because of this, because I think that for a competitive major like EECS at UC Berkeley, these are very less marks. Moreover, UC Berkeley also does not have an option of counsellor report who could tell the story of my math exam to adcoms. I am confident that that I can score a 36 on ACT Math Section and 800 in SAT Math2 subject test.
Please tell me, what should I do, should I re-test after asking my principal (she can also turn down my request)? Will these marks jeopardize my chances to get into UC Berkeley? UC Berkeley is my dream school...Do suggest me. Thank you! Any help would be appreciated

please reply…

Hi … I’ll try to help. Do you mean you are finishing 11th grade? I’m guessing you are international because most US high schools don’t call it that. I have no idea how international students are measured for admission, but I can tell you that one low score doesn’t mean an automatic rejection. Especially with very high scores on the ACT/SAT. High test scores plus high grades in all other math classes will probably be viewed as an outlier. That’s how I’d interpret it. Finish out the year strong, keep up your ECs, and work on writing good essays. What major are you applying to?

^This is true. But, International students need to be much more competitive than in state or out of state students. I’m afraid that’s going to be the most advice anyone can give you here, since I don’t think many people are familiar with this form of grading, I don’t even know if that’s a good score or not!

@soaringcicada I’ll applying to EECS

Oh yes, sorry, I see that you mentioned EECS in your original post. It really depends on the applicant pool your year and how you compare with other EECS applicants. Do you know what grade that translates to? Is 90+ an A, 80-90 = B, 70-80 = C, 60-70=D??? So are you thinking you’ll get 62.5, or a D-???

But, it’s another grading system here…

What is the class average for that class, or for each subject overall?Any idea what your class rank is?

The class average is less than my marks, and my rank is 2

Your class rank is 2? As in you have the 2nd best grades in your class? What are you so worried about then, if only one person is doing better than you, clearly you’re doing great. Or am I missing something?

Agree w dina4119 … Don’t worry about 1 grade if you are ranked second best in your class. Is your hs highly competitive, average, or not very?

its competitive!
