My favorite laptop that I've ever used was a 12-inch powerbook I borrowed from my college. It was plenty big, and I was doing video work on it! If Apple ever launches a 12-inch Mac Book Pro, I will be buying one!

My current and backup laptops are both 12". The one before that was probably about a 10". The biggest monitor I have in my room is 13" (though I have a 17" widescreen iMac I don't currently have it, I loaned it to my mom and when the new iMacs and Leopard come out I'll be buying a new iMac...got to make due with the iBook for now).

I like smaller screens, especially on laptops. For one thing, they keep the size down. They also are fine for most work. You don't need an alarmingly large screen to word process, look up some stuff on the web, or print out digital photos. Even for Photoshop, about 95% of my work has been done on 12" laptops. I also have made several iMovies on the 12" laptop.

The only problem I've ever encountered is with desktop publishing. Sure, I've done it on small screens, heck, I've done it on a 9" Mac Plus. When I had to make a 75 page autobiographical book with pictures for English during my senior year of high school, however, it was nice to have the larger screen and be able to have your final product, draft, and photos that you had scanned in all up at the same time.

My next laptop will be the smallest screen size yet again, although I'm probably not buying another laptop until grad school, meaning two years from now.

any good places with deals on laptops other than dell?
