12" or 14"

i know this question gets asked alot, but i just want to know simply from experienced users. Which is better for a movie-watching, paper-writing, outgoing college student: a 12" laptop or a 14" laptop (with the same resolution)?
Thanks

14", unless you intend to take your computer with you everywhere you go, or if you are going to have an external monitor to attach. 12" is quite small if you intend to watch movies and write papers on it.

12 inch. I swear by it. Its not as small as everyone makes it out to be. 14 isnt too much bigger.

I guess it depends on what you're used to? I've been using a 17" monitor for years and I just got a 15" laptop. I can't imagine writing long papers on a 12"

It's not like i travel alot, but wanna be able to take my lap. to the library, class, coffee shop, etc... I know that would be easier with a 12" but is it worth the small screen. I mean i should get used to a 12" right?

Well I still intend on taking my 15" to the library, coffee shop or whatever. How much will your 14" weight? Mine's only about 5.5lbs so I don't see that being an issue at all.

12" is great for using in class, esp considering how small many desks are.

but, if you do go with a 12", you should consider purchasing a separate monitor for your room

Y'know everybody said to purchase a extra-moniter with a laptop, especially a 12" and i always brushed it off. But now that I think about it, although it's probably $300+, it seems like a pretty good investment.

Hmm, I don't think mine was that expensive (I have a Dell 17" LCD)...
shop around

Would a DELL moniter work with an apple ibook?

I think the 12" ibook comes with a VGA adapter, in which case, yes you can connect it to a dell monitor.

But if you are getting the ibook, I would really recommend a 14" since it's not heavy nor bulky at all. Easily transportable. I think the 12" comes with mini-ports instead of real-sized ones, but you can use the adapters...

Yes it would galaal. I've been using my 12" Powerbook for about 6 months and I really don't have any problems with essay writing or movie viewing. Although I plan on bringing a TV to watch my movies on once I'm in college

i'm leaning towards the 12". I love the size of the 14", but because i'll be walking to all my classes, and because i'm taking my car with me to college, i feel the 12" would make by transportation a whole lot easier. Although i could be wrong.

12 inches seems really small to me. I have bad vision so that would be completely unusable for me. I have 2 monitors at home, a 19-inch LCD and a 17-inch LCD. Both are great but anything smaller results in me leaning too close to the screen. Try out a 12 inch in a store and see if you can use it while maintaining a comfortable position.

Screens always seem big at first, but after a little while and you are adjusted to them, you can't go back to smaller ones!
I thought my 15" powerbook was big when I first got it, but I love it to death and wouldn't think of using a 12". In the apple store, I was like "aww how cute" at the 12", but you want what's best for your eyes...

I went from doing graphics on a 19 inch monitor to using a 12 inch laptop. not that big of a deal. for what I do (web surf, write papers, etc) it's not like I'm ever a foot away from the screen anyway. I think 12 inch really is ok, at 1024 x 768 the resolution works fine with the 12 inch screen.

Also, if i wanted to "curl" up with my laptop, it would be alot easier with a 12" then a 14"...oh yeah i have another question, does anybody know it you can tap-click on an ibook trackpad or is only with pc laptops?

Like click on an item by tapping on the trackpad? Yes, you can do that with macs. I do it with my powerbook, so I assume it works for the ibook as well.

Curl up with your laptop? Like snuggle with it?

yeah, on the weekends I lay in bed with my laptop on me. it's great.

^^me too!!
