12 or 16 unit schedule?

After looking at my “schedule” under the “my course history” tab on the student center I see that cal poly enrolled me into: ANT 250, HIST 110, MATH 118, and SPAN 101( I’m gonna take the spanish placement test at WOW because I took 4 years of it in h.s.) So during my enrollment time I have the option to swap SPAN 101 for ENGL 145( yes I can enroll in this class due to my ap english credits satisfying the A1 pre-req.) However should I have 12 or 16 units my first quarter. I’m already a quarter ahead due to ap credits so I am just undecided about it at this point!

I can’t comment on the 12 vs 16, but I can tell you that what’s in your portal now can change until it’s finalized on the 6th (or 7th).

@eyemgh‌ You’re definitely correct about how cal poly can and/or will modify block schedules up until the official release on 8/6. I had just checked the “My Course History” tab and noticed that the schedulers took me out of MATH 118 but kept me in the rest of the other 3 mentioned above classes from my original post. So i’ll wait and see what happens on 8/6.

12 vs 16 is a completely individual decision. College is a harder transition socially and academically than it is for some students (even some who think they’ll be fine)…and for others it is a quick adjustment. Quarters go by quickly too so that factors into how manageable your workload is as well. If you start with 16, pay attention to the drop dates just in case.
