1250 psat

Is this a good score out of 1520 as a junior. I got a 650 in math and a 600 in reading and writing. My goal is to get a 1450/1600 or more on the SAT. As a person with a 4.0 gpa, what are my next steps?

Your percentiles on the score report are a very good indication of how you will do should you take the SAT right now. Sounds like you are shooting for about a 700 - 750 on each section, correct? I’d open up Kahn Academy and load in your PSAT (you just have to give them permission to access your score information but it’s very easy to do so and Kahn will give you that option) - then let the tutorial help you figure out what you need to work on specifically so that you can get to that score. I think the program will use your PSAT data to customize a study plan for you.

Good luck!

I’m on the 92nd percentile for overall score, 86th for the reading and 93rd for the math.

Also depends on what you plan to pursue in college, and what your target colleges are. Your test scores aren’t that good compared to your GPA.

650 is low for pursuing a STEM career, so work on that if that is your plan.

600 is low for pursuing a liberal arts degree, so work on that if that is your plan.

I don’t think you are anywhere near the NMSQ SI cutoffs. It would be worth your while to go to Khan Academy and other sites to find out why you have trouble with standardized tests.

If you are looking at state colleges anyway, I wouldn’t worry too much about improving.

Egh, I’ve been reading kinda iffy things on Khan Academy. Apparently, it goes over a lot more “material” than actual test taking strategies. Seeing that the SATs don’t really go past what the average student has covered well before junior year…I’m not entirely sure that I’d ONLY want to be thinking about material instead of strategies.

Also, this site was saying that you should prepare on paper - not a screen - if you want to prepare for a paper test. Which - to me at least - makes sense. My teachers have said similar things in the past re: essay writing and note studying. - http://www.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/taking-a-hard-look-at-khan/
