Hi, first of all i am an IB student and our school had 3 semesters, 2 in the 11th and 1 in the 12th

So, Today i met the admissions officer of UC Berkley and she said that any grades received in the 12th dont matter, i.e. my 3ed semester grades will not matter for admissions but will only be seen to make sure im still passing and my 10th and 11th grades will be mainly considered for admissions. However i was always told that the 3 semester grades are the most important. I think i read somewhere that all the UCs do this. Is this true?

Do private or other state universities do this also or is it only the UCs?

Under the US system, high school is four years, each year runs from about end of Aug to early June and each year has two semesters. For all UCs, the only grades that count for admission are those through the end of the third, Junior, year which ends in June before the fall when high school seniors start to apply for college (meaning right now).

I am not sure what they do with internationals except that any term you are currently in which is not already completed as of today will not be considered for admission. At most only those semesters completed before you apply will be considered, and that is by all the UCs since they all follow the same system.

Additonaly, The UC system which uses grades through Junior year in high school, is the accepted sytem by the majority of colleges, particularly most public universities. A very large minority, including all your high ranked private universities (and including most univerities that don’t issue decisions until late March or April), require mid-year reports by end of Jan/early Feb, after you have applied, that provide your first semester senior year grades and those are used for admission.

I have already gotten the results of my 3ed semester so it is fully over and was in july, will it be considered? And do priviate universities like the ivy league use the same system or will my 3ed semester grades be counted?

Nothing much, SAT,tok and EE. This was the first time my school had a third sem so they had it a bit early. I have 2 mock exams coming up, the first one is in Feb end but i dont think any of those will be counted for universities.
I still havent gotten an answer
Do other universities, except the UCs, consider 12th grade semester grades?

Your profile is confusing and until people can understand what a third semester is in reference to your situation, people are pretty much guessing. A semester implies one half of an year that belongs to your 12th grade and it is uncommon to have the first half of the year completed by July.

As people have mentioned, UCs consider only the grades from 10th and 11th for their admission purposes since they have a specific way to calculate the grade averages to make them all baseline for applicants. So they don’t expect to see anything from 12th and if you give it to them, they may look at it but not consider it (they are dumping your 9th too).

Have you completed 12th grade and your IB tests already?

All grades shown in transcript will be considered. Also are you considering spring or fall semester next year ? Since your HS was ending in July 2011 you could have started app process earlier and tried for fall 2011.

If you already completed all your secondary (our high) school requirements by July, then all grades will be used for admission at UCs and at all universities. You have no issue. Even the UCs consider senior year grades if you don’t apply until after you have completed high school.
