I want to drop my Bio course (which is 4 credits) and take 13 credits this semester. If I am appying to a school that is fairly prestegious, will this look like I am "taking the semester off"? In my past three semesters, I have taken 16 (four 4 credit classes), 18, and 15 credits respectively.

Just wanted to know if anyone had any thoughts on this.

Thanks.

at my school, many courses are 3 credits, and at a school like Emory, taking 4 courses such as a freshman seminar, sociology, economics, and math would be 16 credits. At my school (Cornell), it would only be 13. It doesn't matter, ur transfer school will give u a different amount of credits. Some schools have 16 credits as the normal courseload, others have 15 such as my school, and others go by 1 credit unit for every course. At Cornell, I took a full science course and 3 hour lab to go along with it. I only got 4 credits for the entire course whereas at UPenn or any other place, I would get about the equivalent of 6 credits or 1.5 courses.

Thanks for the info, bball. That's good to know!

most schools consider taking 1 unit per week of courses

also, 13 hours with a 3.5-4.0 GPA for the semester will please them more than 16-18 hours with a 2.9-3.4 GPA. if that class will hinder your GPA, I would drop...

Thanks for the info everyone. I think I will drop the course. Without it I will still have 5 classes, including math (which I am really bad at). I think it'll be enough work without overloading myself.

Again, thanks for the advice.
