13 months into research program, thinking of dropping out?

13 months into the program. paid about 4k in fees already. i cant get any degree until 3 years have passed (then i could get a mphil) and its much longer for the phd which i have no intention of getting.

what should i do?

part of me wants to quit now. another half says its best to get the mphil and then leave.

help!

If you are only one year into the program, and you are unhappy, you might as well quit now. Don’t fall prey to the sunk cost fallacy - the idea that because you’ve already spent money you might as well spend MORE money or time on something you don’t want.

why do you want to quit?

@ UKdude84

Have you considered other alternatives? Like:

Taking a semester/quarter off
Transferring

I personally would want to gain something from the experience and time/money spent

I would line up a job first before dropping out.

Well I did drop out. PhD was sooo boring. Please see my ‘advice needed’ thread to help me move on.

Love ya’ll.
