I think UCSC and UCSB have the best campuses, of the UCs.

GlueEater have you even been to these campuses? There is a difference between the campus setting and the campus. I agree that the campus settings for SB and SC are spectacular but the campuses themselves don't rate anywhere near the top for beauty.

No I have not. Well kinda yes. I went to UCSC about 5 years ago, but I didn't take a tour or anything. I was just staying in the area, so I'll take your word for it if the campus itself is not good. I thought it looked pretty nice though.

And I just drove through UCSB maybe 2 years ago, so I'll take your word on this one too.

Having recently visited UCSD, I can attest that some of the buildings there are pretty ugly. The Biology building is particularly hideous. Much of the campus reflects stark concrete architecture. Jacob's Engie school looks alright though, more modern. And of course there is the unique, cool looking Geisel library. The grounds look good though, nicely sloping and reminds me of Berkeley's hills.

This thread is so interesting. Long before someone decided to "rank" colleges on their "ugliness", people talked about UCSD as being in beautiful La Jolla, pretty grounds, etc. Honestly, people just didn't think of it as being ugly.

Adultparentmom!,

I thought of UCSD as being ugly long before I read anything on a random website.

I think the message is clear and we have reached consensus, UCSD is not the most aesthetically pleasing school in California especiallycompared with other ucs..

I don't agree with your consensus at all. You completely left out UCB which is widely regarded as being one of the most beautiful campuses. I also wouldn't rate the campus of UCSB over UCD. The beauty of the campus is one of UCD's true high marks. The setting of UCSB is lovely as evidenced by the pictures you supplied. The campus not so much. There is a difference. Both UCSC and UCSD have very pretty settings too. You need to distinguish between setting and campus.

This thread just proves that there are as many opinions on what constitutes "campus beauty" as there are human beings. I am quite sure that there are some who appreciate UCSD's campus, too. My concern is just the "ranking" group-think that goes on these days. How many times have we seen students attend a top ranked school, only to find out that the "ranking" dropped several spots the next couple of years and the student is devastated and thinks the degree will be worthless? Same school, same teachers, etc. Some who thought that UCSD was pretty will be upset that they are now attending a #13 ranked, "ugly" campus.

I don't agree with the consensus above. I think UCLA is the #1 most beautiful UC campus and I am sticking to it!

i actually fell in love with the architecture the first time i came here. i loved ucla as well. they're opposites though, ucla (red brick, churchlike buildings) and ucsd (abstract, glass, futuristic).

I seriously walk around ucsd and turn my head just to look at some of the buildings. =]

i'm in warren btw.

This is Princeton Review's rankings of campuses that are "tiny, unsightly, or both" which is probably the politically correct way of saying ugly. It's probably a more legit list since it's not based off the opinion of just one person.

I guess Princeton Review hates SUNY schools, eh?
University at Buffalo being ranked 10th on that list is just WRONG. I've been to several "North East" colleges (Boston College, John's Hopkins, Harvard, MIT, etc.) and let me tell you, University at Buffalo is one of the best-looking and biggest campuses of them all. I do have to agree that SUNY Albany is ugly though...

These were 2 pictures I took from my on-campus apartment one day (no Photoshop, it really looked like this):

Uhhhh like 80% of those pics were of the library..... it always seems like the library is all UCSD has to show off......
