19,306 freshmen applied to uchicago this year
Apparently they accepted 18%
According to the Suntimes article posted here from chicagoboy, yield is 39%

So: (19,306)(.18)(.39) sums up to approx 1355 people who are going to uchicago for sure

If I remember correctly Chicago said they want a freshman size of around 1250.

if my numbers, calculations and memory are sound, that means uchicagos freshman size will be forced to expand by 150

Does this mean there is no more hope for waitlisted applicants? (well I know a few ppl got in already, apparently before May1 though which is kinda weird)

HB - It might mean minimal draw from the waitlist. Keep in mind though, that some students who are waitlisted elsewhere, primarily HYPS-type schools, will end up with a spot at other schools, bringing down the number of matriculated students at UChi. I don’t know if as many as 100 will end up elsewhere, but I do know that the number you calculated will certainly not be the true number of students who will ultimately enroll. So keep your head up! My waitlisted student got in, and it’s not over until September 29.

Dude thats the blog where I thought I got my number - I didnt remember correctly then. In that case yeah, perhaps we have hope :)

UC Mom, was your waitlisted student notified before May 1 too? Also, I think the waitlist closes early June this year, according to another thread here.

At the risk of stating the readily evident, rounding acceptance and yield percentages can make a difference in the arithmetic and preliminary conclusions therefrom. A 1% swing in acceptance rate is around 193 students and the yield range between 38.51% and 39.49% yields (both of which round to 39%) is say 36 students.

So if that many students were admitted and the yield was that high why are there still only 824 admitted student profiles on Phoenix facebook on the uchicago website?

class of 2013
number enrolled: 1335
when we actually got there it was only 1328, apparently. a couple kids might have decided to go somewhere else or to take a gap year or something over the summer.

Ok, so I called my counselor today regarding the waitlist. He told me that Chicago’s yield was high this year, so they expect to take VERY few people off that waitlist. He told me that everything depended on the deposits being processed, and that Chicago would let us know next week.

Will the counselors get annoyed if you email or call them regarding the likelihood of you getting accepted? Do they want emails/calls in general?

Well the new stats say 3560 were accepted, with 39% yield. That means around 1388 matriculating, significantly more than previous years. I just sent an email to my counselor in light of this information, and i suspect he will either deliver the bad news straight or come up with a diplomatic response.
