That's right guys I have 14 W's in my transcript. I was former gang member, addicted to drugs, alcohol, and computer games and I decided to turn my life around. I recently accepted Christ in my life and my visit to Nepal made me realize how I wanted to become a doctor. I currently want to transfer to a UC, but my family and friends are all telling me that it is too late for me. What are my options? What can I do? How can I overcome my W's?

IT’S NOT TOO LATE. Go to the transfer center at your CC and visit often. Look into the TAG program and other transfer programs. Talk to the UCs that you’re interested in. Work toward the IGETC and prerequisites for your future UC major. There may be some of those Ws you need to take for IGETC or major prereqs but you don’t necessarily have to re-take every single one. UCs don’t seem to ding transfers for Ws. For example in the Social and Behavioral Science section, say you have Ws in 3 of the classes. You can take other classes instead. Your personal statement will be great when you write about your trip to Nepal. Work hard, study hard, don’t be afraid to ask for help.
